East Texas, Here We Come... Maybe?

Met with the realtor yesterday and today we sign disclosure papers and the yard sign will go out. He didn't think we'd have any trouble selling the house soon.. So then the looking starts in East Texas and the dreaded MOVE..

WOW, all the junk we collected over 30 years.. We need a garage sell.. [:D]

Anyone know a reasonable priced moving company? [;)]

My brothers looking in Austin 'burbs (Flooterville(sp[?]). Like you he needs to have a garage sale but no one wants to buy his crap[:D]. He thinks he can move all his crap in one large U-Haul but I had to break the news that he'll need a rig to haul his crap. Unless he dumps and buys everything new (I am the voice of reason and bearer of ill tidings). So, he too could use a reasonablly priced mover from California to Texas (very soon).

Texas sounds interesting except for the tonadoes, hurricanes and the famous "Dry Heat"[:D]. Ever since watching "Second Hand Lions" (supposed to have been filmed in Austin and 'burbs) just being able to shoot trespassers off your porch, sippin' iced tea seemed nice[:D]. But I also heard beer has less points of booze (is that true?[V]) now that's more of Mormon country non-sence.

Pflugerville does not have dry heat. It is quite humid there which is much worse. West Texas from about Big Springs
and further west is dry heat which is a lovely thing. Sure it's hot during the day but it cools way down at night. Humidity makes it miserable all the time.

hey Bubba Joel where are you moving to in East Texas??

Gonna try to get fairly close to Mt Pleasant area.. Our kids are moving out of Dallas and gonna relocate around the there also.. Yep, gonna be more humidity than we're use to here in the panhandle. But more fishing areas also..[:D]

yoshmyster-Texas beverages are regular octane. For arcane reasons, Oklahoma has 3.2% limitations on most beers.

You can get regular strength stuff there, but you have to go to stores licensed to sell hard liquor. [?]

You won't be far from me.

It's definitely a good area if you own a bass boat. Lots of good lakes all around, especially Fork, but right now they're all lower than I've ever seen them.

You're also going to find plenty of opportunity to try your hand at wild hogs.

Where do you live? My brother use to live around Quitman and they had a big problem with wild hogs.. Yep, I'd like to test the old .06 on them..

I don't have a boat, but hope to some day.. Being retired I'll have time to try out a few lakes..[:D]

I'm out in the sticks of Hopkins County, just north of Quitman.

My driveway is about 45 minutes from Mt. P.

Well I do wish you well, but don't be expecting me to stop in EAST Texas for coffee and a visit![xx(] I try really hard to avoid humidity, even for fishing.

You won't be very far from me either. I'm located a few miles south of Lufkin, TX not far from Lake Sam Rayburn. Plenty of good hunting and fishing. I agree that the humidity does suck. Good luck!

Ah, Lufkin, home of the famed Cooper knives. I also know of other custom knifemakers in that area. If ya'll have any good deals on Cooper knives, please let me know.

Never been to Tx., but hear parts of it are nice. Congrats on the move.

shellitout, yep Fritch use to play Dalhart.. Plus we moved here from Dumas.. And I have a cousin who moved from Amarillo to Longview..

tazzer, I've been talking to a guy in Omaha on the city or private lake there.. Gonna look at his place if & when mine sells.. Sounds like something I'm interested in, has a fishing pier and easy access to the lake..

spryor, being a knife collector and not much money, they would have to be good deals.. Is there a web-site or catalog?

Cooper knives closed their doors a couple years ago, but their knives are HIGHLY collectible. One of the knifemakers I know in Lufkin used to work for them, and the owner gave him many of them. He's sold a few on fleabay, and they go crazy high for semi-production knives. Google "Cooper knives", and you'll be shocked. For some reason the Japanese think these are made of gold or something.

    Winnsboro, TX.

My father-in-law has retired there. Lives on Lake Winnsboro (good fishing).

His daughter (my wife, naturally) and I are seriously considering moving there ourselves from Mississippi (suburb of Memphis).

I'm ready to get away from the big cities and get back to "Mayberry".

Pflugerville (thanks for the correction[;)]). So no dry heat and that boy does hate that mug and he'll be a looking at homes in June (poor devil[:D]). I'll have to tell him about "West Tejas".

I must've gotten those two places mixed up. But they have the Oregon/Washington like "State" run liquor stores. They're kind a fun no real signs other than "Liquor" all business like. No snacks, no TP, just booze[:D].
