Saw a wolf that had two guys cornered today...

We went to check out the Upper Pack River today and we came upon this wolf in the roadway...the thing wasn't afraid of vehicles or people at all...as a matter of fact it had two guys stranded up on this huge boulder...they could not get back to their truck b/c this thing kept circling them. You could see where it used to have a radio collar on it...the fur was almost completely gone where the collar once was...saw bare skin in some places. This wolf came within 2'-3' of the door to my truck and kept walking back and forth in between my vehicle and the fellows on the rock...probably weighed a buck ten..or a buck twenty. The fellows on the rock didn't have any weapons with them...and there were too many folks in the immediate area to take care of things properly.

At one point the wolf went down over the bank and the driver made a break for it...he safely made his vehicle...the second fellow was a little slower getting down off the boulder and about the time he touched the ground, I yelled "hurry up, here she comes!" You should have seen that fellow run![:D][:D][:D]

It was pretty funny...I'm laughing just recalling the situation.

Well, it you're going to be all sensible about it...[8D]

I was curious, since we don't have wolves here on the high plains, what the heck the deal is if you think you're in danger...of if someone else is being stalked by canis lupus. Even if the thing has a tag you should be able to shoot shouldn't you? (If, unlike this particular situation, you wouldn't be putting anyone else in danger)

S.S.S. Problem is, when you introduce folks that you don't know into the situation...them fellas would have been grateful had I taken care of the situation...but there's no telling who they might have talked to about it.

Down here in Kuna the Ranchers all carry shovels in the back of their trucks. I would have capped it. I think most people around here would have as well.

Well I have been mostly staying out of the snow areas so far. I got stuck momentarily in a snow bank, but winched myself out, when we did go up in the snow. But I can see I'm going to start to carry some ball ammo for the 40 cal.

Been staying down in the desert areas so far for riding. Saw the first Antelope yesterday. I've never hunted them before, and they were not casual about putting a mile or more between me and them pretty fast.

Anyone consider rabies? since it wasn't afraid of anything or anyone.

I don't think so. It was just being a Wolf. To bad it couldn't join the other wolves that used to be here. Maybe next time.
