some of you might remember the original chicken killing post (2 possums got in the chicken coop and had to be "disposed of")
well, over the last couple months 4 chickens went to the big coop in the sky.
they were all from the original group which are now 4 yrs old. theyre rhode island reds.
so, is 4 yrs about it for chickens? do different breeds live longer/shorter?
thanks!

City guy visits a friend in the country. They have chicken -lots of chicken- for lunch. Fried, baked, boiled and barbequed. After dinner, they sit out on the porch to let lunch settle. Suddenly the sickest looking, diseased and dying chicken struggles out from under the porch. City guy turns to his friend and asks, "What's wrong with that chicken -he looks sick." Country friend replies, "Don't know what it is, but it's killing them faster than we can eat 'em!"[:D]

We used to get 4-5 years out of the Dominiques, but had one last 8. Opossums, *, and feral cats were their biggest enemy and we sprayed alot of lead protecting them damn birds.
