Actually Ruger, these days they mostly live in houses. You should apologize though, because it wasn't very funny.

I am not a native american, but my hunting partner is if that will help? He lives in New Mexico.

I am 1/16 Native American; my grandma on Dad's side had a photograph of a female in full leather and feathers regalia, but it has been lost and I am truly sorry to say I cannot recall what tribe she told me it was.

I heard a joke today: Man to his psychiatrist:

"Doc, last night I dreamed I was a teepee, the night before I was a wigwam, the night before that a teepee, and the night before that a wigwam!"

Doc says: "That's easy -- you're two tents.

Can I ask a dumb question? Now I aint tryin to be smart or cause any disrespect but how does one come up with the percentage of how much indian blood one has? How do you know if you have 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and so on? I'm a Hienz 57, I have relatives from all over the world, now how do I find out how much of what I have in me? I do have a full blooded indian uncle that lives in Orange Texas, related by marriage only.

If a 100% indian marries a non-indian and have children, the children will be 1/2.

    Their children will be 1/4.

    Their children will be 1/8.

    Their children will be 1/16.

And so on assuming the partners are non-indian.

I am not a member of the First Nations but I will say this much. I am more welcome on the reservations while wearing my uniform than I am in the community in which I was born and from where my family name comes.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each of the contributors to this thread for NOT referring to American Indians as the PCBS "Native American". (Up to this point at least.)

Mudge old pal, I am sorry to do this to you, but in point of fact "American Indian" is as much BS as "Native American!" Both are Anglo designations. 1. They are not Indian, as their ancestors came from Asia, but not India. 2. They refer to them selves by the names of their tribes, clans, and families. My partner would tell you he is Dinee, born to the place where the water comes out clan, born for the reed people clan. He would not tell you he is Indian, but might say Native America. When PC is more polite or more accurate, it makes sense, get over it!

My bloodline contains Creek and Cherokee ancestry from northern Alabama.

The only reason Indians were ever named Indians was because when the first explorers arrived at the "New World" they mistakenly thought they had gone around the world to India.

I did use the term Native American above, but only because I do not know the name of the tribe, to my great sadness. It's only 1/16, but I would nevertheless be as proud of that detail of history as the English, German and French blood I also carry. Particularly since my grandmother, who I remember well, was such a fine woman.

For cryin out loud people, cant a person ask a freakin simple question without it being turned into some half assed racially pc debate. I was merely trying to find out if anyone was an American Indian that lives on a reservation. They have some of the best hunting lands in the country and they are not subjected to the same rules and regulations as we anglos are. I wanted to here some good hunting locations and find out how a white man can enjoy them.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

Easy enough 4GodandCountry, but don't forget "some half assed racially pc debate" is what we do best around here. Mudge will understand.

There are two Reservations in New Mexico, where I know something of what is going on. The bottom line is $$$. On the jicarilla Apache rez, you will need about $4K to hunt elk. No elk hunting on the Navajo rez, but for a nonresident, nonnavajo the ticket is currently $1000 and you must hire a Navajo guide. If you got the bottom line, I'd be happy to help track down some further info.

i live 5 miles (in cent SD) from a res in fact all of my land was in the original crowcreek indian resevervation many many moons ago.
I'm part Cherokee from my great grandmothers mother and one great grandfather who died before I ever knew him, so its pretty dilluted by now.
One thing when you step foot in the res it just like a different country they have their own laws.
If you ever get out here let me know I can show you where a very large area that was an indian village that covers many many miles. the hills in a lot of our pastures are covered with tee pee rings(a large ring of rocks that held down the edges of the tee pee covering). I have found several large rock hammers the ones with the ring around the center.
My grandpa has two cigar boxes full of arrow heads, rock beads and a pipe made from stone plus old bullets that he found back in the dirty thirties when he was a kid.

I dont give my guns without somebody getting hurt!

Well, why didn't you say so!? Afraid my great great grandmother won't be of much help finding the good hunting spots.

Saxon -- There are so few pure Indians now, and so many are broken-spirited drunks, that I guess I don't mind giving them a few breaks -- but I would not allow their killing baby eagles, culture or no culture. That stinks.

    4GodandCountry,
I have learned that no one can ask a simple question in this forum.... it will be debated, argued, picked apart, thrown back together, and then the whole process starts all over again.. usually with derogatory remarks to anyone with a different point of view, religion, nationality.. etc..it goes on and on and on...

There is an old saying.. arguing for the sake of arguing... and that is what goes on in here.. *LOL.. because they WANT to argue..or turn a simple question into something that can be argued... For that matter, you cant even post good news without someone arguing that its bad news.. hmmmmmmmmm... *LOL
