I've never seen it until now, but I might just buy one. It's for a bedside shotgun holder.

Hadn't seen it. Would work well in a home with no kids.

Looks to me like a recipe for disaster...I can see knocking that thing down while getting in and out of bed...I'd be afraid of an AD.

+1, i do have a horizontal holsters mounted pistol near the head of my bed under the frame, and it's covered by the dust ruffle you can't see it, and it's never been an issue

Well, my 870 is currently under the bed, loaded with flechettes, but I don't keep one in the chamber, as I figure the sound alone of me racking one is enough to make the intruder crap himself anyway before I blast him and if he isn't already dead from the rottweilers tearing him apart. If AD means accidental discharge as I think it does, then it isn't a problem if you don't keep one in the chamber. The colt .45 in the nighstand is loaded and chambered with glaser (sp?) safety slugs (blue tips that fragment upon impact).

If you don't keep one in the tube your OK, the sound of you racking might prevent you having to wash your walls. BUT if you have any possibility of small kids being around, no way.
And I was thinking about firing up the welder [;)]

NOT keeping a round in the chamber is just stupid. Most people aren't going to have time to rack it, and do it while they are groggy from waking up at 3 am.

If you are going to keep a gun for defense, KEEP IT LOADED. And not keeping a round in the chamber because you have kids around is JUST STUPID. Kids will figure out how to rack it, and then kill someone. :(

If you don't keep it loaded and ready, why bother?

This is the system I use. 90? threaded hook into a wall stud. Side mounted sling swivel. Seven in the magazine and one in the chamber, on safe. Now that I'm old and slow, it takes almost a second to be ready to shoot.

    James,
That same "hook" works well over the top of your closet door with a handgun, a thief will not look there, and kids can't reach it[:D][;)]

You must not have kids! I think kids are 7 feet tall because they seem to be able to reach anything!

The best thing you can do is teach your kids not to mess around with your guns! (works great as long as they are old enuff to understand)

I keep several loaded guns in my room and I do not have any fears about my kids as I know they will not mess with them.

My kids also have thier .22 rifles in thier rooms (no ammo of course and trigger locks installed) hanging on racks. These guns have not been touched without my knowladge! I know this as I have made some very faint marks that I have lined up that the kids do not know about that I line up on the racks. I was checking the guns daily when I first put them in thier rooms to see if they had been messed with and they have not moved. Now I still check them every few days to make sure.

Both of my kids have allways been exposed to guns at some level. Now they are at the level where I do take them shooting often and there is no curiosity to them about guns. And as far as thier friends they know that nobody comes in the house unless I am here and I say it is ok.

So a house with kids can still have loaded firearms around if the parent involved takes the proper steps and teaches thier kids the right way!

yes but do you keep it laying across your lap, and take it into the bathroom?, and you have to occasionally wake up, and fire a round down the hall to be 100% effective, because we all know their is a gang of hoods waiting outside for the precise moment you let your guard down

I already raised 5 you have how many?[;)] Are any of them teenage yet?
And you put in how many hours out of the house per week? not many families have the option of having a at home parent 24-7. It is not your kids who will be the problem, it is their friends, My kids were taught safe firearms handling and the rules of the house, but you never know about their friends, no matter how well you know them[;)]
And if one of them, god forbid decides to have a little after school get together while your not home, and something happens, who do you think will be sued?
Who will be blamed? and in some states charged with a crime?
I won't take that risk. I do and have always keep loaded firearms, but all are out of sight & reach.

I have 2. And I am a stay at home parent!

The ferthest I go with the kids in the house is across the street and when I do that my bedroom (where the loaded guns are) is locked!

Also no other kids are allowed in the house if I am not in the house.

I do take precations! But I also trust my kids and the firearms safety I have taught them!

I have tested them many times by leaving an unloaded gun on the kitchen table (which I can see from my room but they do not know I am watching) and they do not even pay it any attention. To them a gun is just another fact of life as they see me carrying one most all the time and have daily exposure to them.

I also think that each kid is different and just because this is fine with my kids does not mean it would be fine with other kids. It would have to be up to the parent to honestly know thier kids and make the right choices on something like this.

I also know a couple guys on the Sheriff's department around here that thier kids also keep guns in thier rooms. I talked with them before makeing my choice to allow these guns in thier rooms and they said that if I fully trusted that they would not be playing around with them and such that they saw no problem with it!

    I agree 100% Merc!
If the sound of the slide "racking" is detterent to intruders, why not save all that money that we spend on ammo?
All we should have to do is "rack" the slide six or seven times and the bad men will be crapping themselves for blocks as they run down the street like scared little girls!
The sound of a round being chambered only gives the intruder an exact fix on your location and gives them the upper hand while you give up one of the few advantages you have in your own home.
