If all goes as planned, I hope to pull out Friday PM and drive to Myersville MD to visit with daughter. I'll be leaving Coffeeville MS and TomTom says it is just shy of 1000 miles.

I hope to drive it non stop but if I get too tired will probably pull into a secure rest stop for a nap. May even have to do it several times!

Weather up there should be getting cooler so I can get out and see the sights.

I especially want to see some of the museums in VA. There are several Smithsonian buildings I haven't been to yet and hope to work them in too.

I am thinking about staying for 2 weeks unless she runs me off sooner.

Anyone have any ideas about what I need to see while I'm un there?? Tom

Update: Got here 0500 Sat AM and waited till 0800 to call her!! Visited until the PM and then went to downdown Frederick. They have a first Sat here and also it trick or treat for kids. A lot of businesses gave candy to the kids.

Went to the Civil War Medical Museum Which was very interesting.

Frederick is a very interesting town.

Sunday we toured the Monocacy battlefield. A very little known battle but one of the most imp;ortant in the war. Google it. I don
t have time to explain it!!

Monday, I toured the new museum at Gettysburg. It is outstanding. I didn't tour the battlefield since I have been there before.

Today, I visited the new Air & Space museum. Breathtaking. I wore myself out walking. This building is bigger than big, it is colossal! On they way there, I saw the exit for the NRA National Firearms Museum. Will Try to work in in later this week.

Am pooped. Will report more later this week. Tom

Myersville is near Antiedam and Gettysburg, if you are interested in Civil War battlefields/musems. All of the DC sights of interest are within range if you can handle the traffic. The usual run of local sights, such as they are. Weather should be good, and much cooler than MS.

VA state Troopers are a little paranoid about speed limits (while you are on I-81).

National Firearms Museum at the NRA HQ, Waples Mill Rd, Fairfax VA (just outside DC) Harper's Ferry WV, any of the battlefields around Fredericksburg VA if you are a history buff, Richmond VA- White House of the Confederacy (catch the State Capitol tour- only 3 blocks away) and the Virginia Historical Society- good display of Civil War firearms- (including the only LeMat carbine I have ever seen). Take I-64 to hook back in to I-81, and catch Monticello in Charlottesville on the way.

And if you are taking a gun, be very careful in MD. I personally know a PA State Trooper that was arrested in MD for carrying while he was on the way to Johns Hopkins to have a tumor removed from his inner ear. MD trooper pulled him over for doing 61 in a 55, and he said yes when asked if he had a gun in the car. (this was before HR218) It was a real mess for awhile, until MD dropped the charges. Doubt if they would have dropped them for a non-cop.
