I woke up at 4am this morning and felt myself walking to the gun cabinet. I hadn't planned on hunting today, but something was dragging me out the door. So, I grabbed my .25-06 Vanguard on the way out and headed for the hills. I'm within 30 minutes of good deer country, so I got there while it was still dark and took a nap. When it was light enough to see, I started to walk down the road to a burn where I could sit and watch for awhile. I had only gone about 100 yards when I heard something above me on the uphill side of the road. There stood a giant forkhorned Blacktail just begging to be put in the pot. He was only about 50 feet away. So, I took careful aim through my Leupold 3.5X10 and settled the crosshairs right where the neck joins the shoulder and touched it off. It felt great. I hadn't fired a gun in three years due to three heart operations and the sternum not healing. And I thought there would be a lot of pain. None. Also, I'm glad the old Weatherby was still sighted in. Anyway, I dressed him out, tagged him and dragged him down to the road. When I lifted him up into the back of my pickup, I used two hands so that if anyone was watching, they would think he was heavy. Size? Remember Varmit's Kansas Whitetail? Remember the bottom two points on the right side? My rack would fit in that opening.....sideways.
Oh well, you can't eat antlers. Or, at least some of us don't.

Muley, what zone are you in? I'll get a tag for there next year and we'll bust a few.

will....I harvested this monster in B5 just west of Red Bluff. My other tag is a G-1. That starts 10/26, I believe.
