Today I did something unusual. I walked into our local pawn shop. I don't noramlly grace their doors, as their prices are stupid.
I am checking out the rifles on the shelf, and a fellow walks in. Said he had prevouosly called about selling some Winchesters. Only he didn't HAVE those with him, he had three Smith and Wesson revolvers. I hung around to hear the bone-you offer he would receive.
To my surprise, the moron only ASKED 500 for ALL three revolvers. Man, those were some NICE looking pistols. The manager said "well, ok. I guess we can give you that much". Now I CAN'T fault the store for giving the guy what he asked. However, IMO, that guy was a fool for asking so little. I know full well, each of those revolvers will be priced at 500 EACH tomorrow.
I was looking at two SKS's they had, but for 250 each, and neither was THAT nice, IMO. Specially' knowing that more than likely, they had 100 or less into them. Both had aftermarket stocks. Neither had a magazine. I don't mind a store making profit, but when I know they are trying to DOUBLE what they have into it, I will buy from someone else.

I would've pulled the guy aside and made a counter offer..
Ditto, I picked up a gently used Mossberg 500A pistol grip shotgun for a $100.00 off a guy that was trying to sell it at the pawn shop. I still have it today. Nice little home defense/truck gun.
Geez!
VERY bad manners, getting in the middle of someone else's deal on their place where they pay the bills.
I've always had bad experiences in pawn shops. They give you crap for a item and then everyone I've been to wants to sell it for what you could buy a new one for.
It is the SAME way here. That would be why I don't grace their doorway often. They had THREE Highpoint pistols. 2 9's and a 380, all used, and EACH was priced at 200 each.
I would've pulled the guy aside and made a counter offer..
Screw him. If he is THAT dumb, I will let the pawn shop profit from HIS stupidity.
Perhaps though, I should have gotton his number, so I could buy his Winchesters for 100 a piece. [;)]

I agree Nunn. Even IF I don't like the shop, I am not going to go out of my way to screw them. They are entitled to operate how they see fit, and it is NONE of my business, to screw them out of a buck, because I can.
Don
All the pawn shops i visit the price on the tag is never what I pay...
Don
Consider yourself lucky then Don. I have heard the pawn shop in Kendallville is a good shop, and SOME in Ft.wayne. They supposedly deal, and have FAIR prices. Too far for me to travel, as I am generally a home body. I persue other avenues to find goods. Craigslist, and papers have panned out for me SO far.
There WAS a fool who contacted me two weeks ago, wanting to sell his SKS and what was LEFT of the origanal kit. He was ONLY asking $800.
I hated to break his little heart and tell him it's actual fair market value, and what he was missing. Either this poor sap got a screwing, or he was LOOKING to screw someone. Either way, no sale. [:)]
After searching the used shotgun rack and coming up dry, I'd just bought a brand new Marlin LC Smith 20ga O/U shotgun and was waiting for a buddy to buy a Remington 1100 Skeet model. A crackhead (they knew HER name) came in with a Browning Citori 20ga and was offered 500 for it. I wanted to jump in, but as Nunn said, that is very bad manners. The store bought the Browning and had it taged and out in the used rack before I got out of the store. Store price? $950.
I will assume if you had offered them 600, they would have told you to take a flying leap.
Are you sure he was selling, or just using them for a loan...If he was just getting a loan, maybe that's all he needed
No, no loan. He said he was selling them outright.
