Philadelphia-AP -- A Philadelphia man is being charged with involuntary manslaughter after his two-year-old granddaughter died yesterday while sitting in a steaming hot car for nearly eight hours.

Prosecutors say Calvin Howell was criminally negligent when he apparently forgot to drop the girl off at a baby-sitter's home before going to work. Temperatures yesterday soared into the 90s.

An autopsy confirms the child died of heat stroke.

Howell left the car sometime around 7 a-m yesterday to work a day shift at the city sanitation department, and then visited a car repair shop before noticing the girl's slumped body at around 2:30. The toddler was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Howell faces a maximum jail term of 19 years if convicted.

Can you really Punish somebody like that more than he will punish himself? I feel sorry for the Child but also feel for the Grandfather.

Yes but......how do you forget your two year old grandchild???
I have eight cracker crumblers, curtain climbers and rug rats. i couldd't forget one unless i had alzheimers etc.

I also have a hard time imagining how slow death came upon this little one and the sufferage she endured.

The grandfather was competent enough to work a job and move about on his own. Surely he had to remember her in his vehicle. Being a parent or grandparent requies much constant diligence!

Obviously the Child did Suffer which is a Horrible Thing to Happen and I'm not saying Judicial proceedings shouldn't be brought against him.

But I don't think the System can impose a punishiment more severe than the Self-Imprisonment and Canyons of Hell he has put himself in knowing he is the cause of this Tragedy.

And yet again... did no one see the child in the car?.....Even in a parking lot someone is bound to walk by... lunch time... home early..others coming in late to work...
Strikes me as another case of "I didnt want to get involved" or "Its none of my business"..
