One armed man question.

Weither of birth defects or accidiental; is there a type of gun that a one armed man would be suited to the individual?

Personally I'm think a break-top revolver like a webley or that new smith (I think its a smith). I could be wrong about this.

What do you guys think?[?]

the fastest way ive found to reload one handed is to drop mag, reholster or place between legs, insert mag, and either hit slide release or catch rear sight on belt/ mouth of holster. might also consider a high cap auto to make reloads less of an issue.

    hope that helps

    I'd suggest a semi-auto pistol w/ a high-cap magazine.....since a quick reload is probably out of the question

This was only a hypothetical. I never really thought of 'right' or 'left'. However I believe a lefty may have more trouble.

I just had shoulder sugery and haven't been able to take my arm out of the sling for 21 days so far. I am ambidextrous dominent lefty and surgery was on my right arm. I have been working on this exact situation for the last week or so. I can't rack the slide on any of my semi autos so my best thought is a revolver. I don't have a top break but I think that a setup using moon clips is the way to go. I have a S&W 610 10mm & a 627 8 shot .357. My thought is the 627 with a little lighter .357 loads. Man, typing one handed bites.

use a slide racker, you may have seen one on a open competition gun, it sticks out about 3/4 inch above the safety so you can rack the slide with a scope mounted on the gun, but may be an option with a plain 1911, glock or any gun that can be made into a competition gun

picture these without all the extras, it is the big knob on the back of the slide, they do not all look as obtrusive

Just to see what its like using a semi-auto one handed, I got my brothers single action Armscor .45 1911 to test it out.

I was able to load the magazine (the hardest part, pain in the *), put the mag in the gun, rack the slide, cock and uncock the gun, eject the magazine, and eject the chambered round, all only using my left hand (and im right handed).

I dont think it would really matter if the gun was single action, double action, a revolver or a semi-auto, the hardest part was preparing the gun for carry.

You only need one hand to fire this:

IF you get the mag into the mag well, there are a couple of ways to rack the slide. DISCLAIMER- if you are dumb enuff to try this when you don't ABSOLUTELY have to- and you cap yourself in the leg- I have 5 witnesses that swear I was drinking beer with them and not on the computer- Visualize a holstered pistol- say a 1911A1. Draw the pistol, but not completely- front end of slide is still half in the holster. Shove weapon forward, shove down, catching the rear sight on front edge of holster. Or- version 2- draw halfway, rotate pistol so that mag points away from you, muzzle down (weapon is now sideways in holster) shove down, catching frame in holster- slide will rack. Or hook rear sight against belt, wheelchair, bad guys head, etc. KEEP YOUR FINGER OUT OF THE TRIGGER GUARD. Have a good friend that lost most of his right hand in Nam- he does just fine with a 45. Key is practice. I did get him a switchblade (legal here for one armed man) so that he would quit opening his pocket knife with his teeth! Of course, you could shop around for a neat little German auto known as the Einhand. Front of trigger guard is separate from the rest of the guard, and is attached to the slide. Extend your trigger finger over the front of guard, pull back.

11b6r-Has it right, but this requires a lot of practice to get right and is awfully hard on a holster or belt. Another option is to drop to one knee and use the back of you heel. It's pretty solid/positve.

A word of caution. Don't use this system with a Glock because you'll end up losing it's plastic rear sight.

put the top of the slide behind your knee, kneel down so it's clamped in there, and rack the slide.

it would be handy to have something in DAO and exposed hammer.

Perhaps a semi-auto with tip-up barrel. Beretta or whoever else makes such a model.

Go to a local IPSC or IDPA match and watch how they do the one handed stuff. When I shot locally, there was always at least one single hand reload and/or shooting. Personally I'd opt for large magazine capacity - grendel p30 or that new fn one, and hope that not only do I never need it, but if I do need it, I won't have to reload.

do that often, but i know someone here would have a better unproven way

If you're kneeling on one knee, you can place the rear sight against the heel of the bottom of your shoe and rack the slide downward as well. Guess it kinda depends on how much time you have or how desperate the situation is.
