Guns really are dangerous

The wife and I went to the range today. Holly burned through some .380 ACP in her P238 Lady, and I zeroed the irons and CCO on my AR. While waiting to get an open firing point, I got talking to some of the other guys there.
One of them had a .460 S&W Mag, and a lot of ammo. He let me (and Holly) put some rounds through it, and now I want one. I just don't have $1200 to justify buying one right now. It will happen though...it will happen.

Just wondering_ Has there been any frame cutting problem with these big rounds as occurred with the 357 Maximum?
Not that I've heard of, primarily because the design process took that into account.

The flame cutting of which you speak only applied to Rugers. It didn't bother the Dan Wesson's and the Thompson Center Contenders did have a closed breach. It was caused by the powder in the ammunition. Once that was corrected the flame cutting was no longer a problem.

You just made me realize how grateful I am to be a member of a range out here in West Texas where in the past 5 years I've yet to share the range with more than 5 other folks, if that. Dunno about the recoil on that .460 as I tend to stay with a .45 caliber max or on rare occassions the .44 Special out of a Super Blackhawk .44 Mag. I reckon age has mellowed my desire for too much ooompf [:o)] . Nice setup though [:)]

It doesn't have any snap. It's more of a push than a snap. Feels a lot like punching the palm of your hand with your other hand.
I actually fired it one handed once I got use to how it felt.

Not correct, or rather partially correct.
The Ruger had the WORST problem w/flame cutting of the top strap, it did not take many rounds to cut the top strap deep enough to dangerously weaken it, the 125gr round was the worst offender.
I forget which model, but I think Ruger stopped making one of their 357's because the problem was so bad.
Smiths were and are not immune to the cutting either...take a look at some older Smith 357 top straps, and about every othe brand made will show flame cutting after being fed a fair diet of the 125gr 357's too...or any fairly hot handload 357 rounds...[;)]
