Gun Safety

Another post got me thinking about an incident that happened several months ago. I just bought an Astra 1921(400) and when my girlfriend saw it, she instantly fell in love with that ugly little pistol. Since I already had some ammo for it (Have you ever bought a gun just because you had some ammo?)I cleaned it up and got it ready to take to the farm the following weekend.
We get to the farm and I put a couple mags through without a problem, actually I like that ugly gun. I load it and hand it to my girlfriend who proceeds to put my grouping to shame. The whole time I'm thinking I've lost another gun to her, and maybe I shouldn't piss her off with the way she shoots[;)].
She loads a second mag, works the action and BOOM!! puts a hole in the ground about six inches from her left foot. The sear spring in the action was weak and when the slide slammed home with the barrel facing down it disengaged. I never had the problem because when I worked the action I had the barrel facing upwards.
The point I'm trying to make is ALWAYS KEEP THE BARREL POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION because accidents do happen, and this one could of been worse.
Now she won't shoot that pistol. I wonder why?
Half of the lives they tell about me aren't true.
