Is a 22 Magnum powerful enough to take a Beaver out to 30 yards ?
I heard they are very tough animals.

Sure, the corpse will float to the top in a few days and then you can deal with that issue. Check with your local warden. He may know someone who can live trap it and get it out of the area. You could be in violation of game laws depending on your state. Beavers are either valuable fur bearers or miserable culvert jamming pests.

Ward, Don't you think you were a little hard on the beaver last night. (form leave it to beaver) Most dirty thing said on TV for those years.

Shooting beavers in the spring for fur is pretty common around here. Most use a 22lr to prevent hide damage.

Firepower is not the issue here.
A buddy of mine thinks he is going to kill
one with a 1 shot kill. I told him he might do it, but why
limit yourself. Just curious what you all thought.
I told him to take his deer rifle.

The "big" aquatic cousin to the prairie dog[:D]. Put one in the brain bucket (make sure to check with your local fish and game) I got a cook book with recipes for them. Something about beaver tails I remember being particularly being tasty[?]. Personally I'd love to have one of those "Russian Hats" with the ear * made out of their pelt (or one made of baby fur seal).

In Florida it is okay to kill beavers all year long and there is no bag limit. The most commonly used cartridge is the 223 with FMJ's as it is a non-game species. They are tough and you don't want them to slip back into the water and die where you can't take the fur.

Ny by chance, Ive used a shotgun with 23/4,#6, 12g...at 15-16 yds., beaver lost. A good head, chest shot, out to 40-45 yds., out past that...a good head shot...with a .22 mag, will suffice, and be rather fun,...except for ones with the "PETA" bent...[;)]

...thru many years of trial and error,...I have found them to be
"un-killable", almost indestructable, don't think you can
hurt 'em...no matter the size of the gun..."eviction" is all
that will for sure get rid of 'em...[:D]
