What do you think about when sitting .............

......... in your deer stand ?

First think I think about is putting every bit of crap that is going on in the world, out of my thoughts.
Then I think about where I am and how great it is to be in the woods and thank the Good Lord for it.
Then I think about the BIG buck that will be coming by at any second.
After that, I think about what my next gun is going to be.
This year, I thought, that I need a .300 Blackout and another .44 Special.

What did you think about?

I think of different scenarios of where the deer could come from and my shooting options.
    I also range different landmarks.
I usually let my mind wander about.
Thinking about nothing of any importance.
    Just enjoying nature.

I kind of do the same as you about clearing my mind of all of life's problems. I also like to just sit and admire the rifle I decide to carry that day.

I hunt with a flintlock Kentucky rifle most of the time. Once in a while I may carry one of those modern percussion jobs![8D]

After a long time goes by, I start seeing branches and stumps with antlers! By then I know it is time to take a walk and get my eyes readjusted.

I think about hunts gone by and time spent with friends and my father. I imagine a huge buck coming out of nowhere, giving me the perfect broadside shot[^]

    I don't/can't use a stand.
So I think about where my next step should go in order to be as silent as possible.
    Pause. Look around.
Repeat until either a deer is sighted or daylight runs out.
Where I do most of my deer hunting:

Same her last weekend 23 degrees and wind gusts between 25 - 35 miles an hour. Was sitting in front of a small pine tree. A couple of hours later I was inside of it just trying to do that.

I normally think along the lines as posted above but this year for some reason all my thoughts revolved around all the memories of all the previous hunts from my past. for some reason I have been stuck remembering hunts with my dad and uncle in southern Missouri. lots of great times. I know I needed the time to slow my roll and get back to being who I am. this world seems to spin faster and faster each year. I cannot deny I may have had to wipe back a tear or two sittin out there this year.

I tend to take a stock of who and where I am as a man. It is like a yearly reflection of am I in a better place than when I sat in the same stand last year. Oh and I think I am so dam glad my phone is not dinging and ringing...
