What the heck? Squirrel fight club out my window!

I don't know what is going on with the squirrels around here. I have several bird feeders and they like to dig around the base of the feeders looking for seeds.

I noticed yesterday that this large grey squirrel looked pretty rough. He has three large patches where there is no hair and he has red places.....it doesn't look like a hole in the skin, just patches of scuffed or scarred areas.

I thought it was odd....wondered what might have happened to him.....when out of nowhere here comes ANOTHER patchy rough looking squirrel! This think looks like it is in the early stages of becoming a zombie. Larger patches with no fur....lots of bright red skin.....and this one had been rained on (adding to the "ewww" affect of his appearance.)

I guess they are fighting with each other??? Who knows.....
