I wish we could go back in time and stop the hate groups from using the Confederate flag.....but it is too late to stop it from being a symbol of hate.
Its somewhat like the Swastika....as far as history goes it was not a symbol of hate until Hitler came along. Now you cannot see it without thinking about the horrible mess that goes with WWII.
Horrible people doing horrible things throughout the years....waving the confederate flag as a banner for their horrific way of thinking has ruined any chance of the flag being thought of for what it really is.
I don't have a confederate flag....I didn't have one before things got crazy...but I'm not judgmental of people that fly them. I don't INSTANTLY think "racist" when I see it. I tend to think "good ol' boy" or "red neck" when I see it......only because throughout my years the people who had confederate flag memorabilia tended to be the people who dipped snuff...drove big trucks...got muddy for fun...had a special holler for when they were especially happy....not bad guys at all. Good ol boys are the best people on the planet. You don't understand how fun...how nice...and how much you are missing in life until you have a few good ol boy friends.
As far as this flag mess goes. I think there is a plan. It is not something that anyone will notice happening until it is too late to change. I might be a bit of a conspiracy nut in this regard, but I think there is some kind of agenda to weaken the South's differences from the rest of the country. They cannot pass the laws they want to...they cannot take our rights away....because the South will not let it happen. I'm not smart enough to see ahead and predict what is exactly going on....but it seems that there is always something trying to make Southern heritage a little less stable.
Fly the flag....keep the monuments in tact...don't dig up historical graves....keep the names of Southern Generals on highways and schools...use a Rebel as a mascot....this is what I think, but I don't get to make the rules.
