They (ATF) showed up Monday and did "the count"....we have spent every day with them since. Its just impossible to describe just how stressed out and terrified everyone is involved. My father called and TRIED to make things seem less worrysome....but no matter what I think I am going to be on edge until they finish and we hear back from them. I realized yesturday that my MOTHER'S BIRTHDAY was Monday and I completely forgot! I also have a certain forum member's shotgun to mail and just didn't get that done either.....but will do this morning! I'll let ya'll know how it goes. (They have been very nice and seem to be more interrested in fixing any problems they see and not just hammering on us.)

Good luck. Are they carrying their "Always Think Forfeiture" Leatherman tools? [:0]

    Ask 'em about the leatherman's.
    Ask 'em about the leatherman's.

OK. Maybe that's not a good idea right now.

Do like an OSHA inspection, keep 'em talking about anything else other than what they are there to do.

Are they agents or the 'civilian' audit team?

Either way, good luck, I hope things turn out ok.

WOW....its aggrivating dealing with all of this. They have handed over two lists. One is a list of guns that we say are there, but supposedly aren't listed on our gun log that we gave them a copy of.....but after checking I have found every one of those guns in our computer listed as "in stock." The second list is a list of guns that are on our gun log....but not found on our inventory of in stock guns. So far digging through the 4473s is finding all of these, but it is taking a VERY long time.

Its not the mondaine crapola of having to deal with everything that is getting to me. The STRESS of it all is wiping me out completely!!!! I am useless by 7pm. I think I would actually buy a Kirby vaccum if someone showed up at my door with one rather than fuss with anyone at the end of the day.

I had a similar exp civilian auditors were confusing serial number with model number or wholesalers sales number and after showing them the work was correct all was well, but I agree nerves were shot and mine was much easier a C&R inspection.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Don't worry LF, it'll be over soon and everything will be OK. Once a month we go through all of our guns and double check all of the books just to make sure everything is perfect. It takes 2 days to do this audit as we have over 3500 guns on hand and sell 25 per day[;)]

What is bad is that since they have shown up I haven't re-stocked or ordered anything. The guns are selling heavier than typically for this time of year so now I have a HUGE number of empty places in the counters.....of the 10 handgun counters I have 3 completely empty now. Its going to be a mess to deal with all of this.

A gun dealer in Alpine had a rookie ATF agent come in and go through the "bound book". He starts to tell the gun dealer how many errors are in his book. Gun dealer holds up his hand and says stop. Gun dealer picks up the phone and calls ATF office and tells the district agent to come and get the rookie before he kicks him to the curb. District agent laughs speaks to rookie agent for a couple of minutes, and rookie leaves store without saying a word.

    True story, I was there.

We have one new guy and one lady we have seen many years. Its funny to see the different attitudes they have. The new guy was all "whispers and ugly looks" the first day....but today he was joining in on the loud banter with the rest of us. My worries are with the papers more than the inventory. Nobody knows the stress of an ATF audit until they have been there. I am just a "worrier" I guess.

The latest thing around here is no abrieviations.

If you are "John J. Doe Jr."

It has to be "John James Doe Junior" or it's a hit.

If you live at "1234 2nd Ave.",

It has to be "1234 2nd Avenue", and then they are going to question if it's "2nd Avenue" or "Second Avenue".

Also don't use Mdl. for Model and so on.

They've been very pricky here lately.

The ATF agent that gave me my initial interview said that all standard postal abbreviations were acceptable, but everything else should be spelled out.

Not to add to the worries, but I seem to remember another dealer in your state (and forum member) had his renewal denied for far less infractions than you have mentioned. [:(]

The problems that they have found haven't actually been problems.....like the entire list of guns (two pages long) that they said weren't listed on our gun log actually were. It isn't as easy as just saying "you're wrong" when they find an error. You have to jump through hoops to show everything is fine. I think we will be going to handwritten books after this inspection. The guns not logged out is aggrivating because you can't tell these things are happening until you print out the entire log and go through it. A handwritten book wouldn't give me these problems.
