It didn't look to me,like any of the heat shield was damaged but,It was hit by chinks of insulation from the main tank...

how many times did they delay this launch to address just this sort of problem?
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

    fly baby fly.

after the next, we will have to pay someone else to get someone, or thing in to space, for us the space race is dead, sad.

only for a while unless they cut Orion/Constellation
the first unmanned test is supposed to be 2014 and first manned flight in 2015.
We are going back to a more traditional rocket concept, the Orion resembles an overgrown Apollo

From what a saw,the pieces came off the main tank.Probably insulation and struck the underside of the shuttle.
I didn't look to me,like any panels came off the orbiter but,it may have loosened some..
I guess we'll soon find out.
