Here is my new (to me) skinning knife from one of the local antique stores. I can't find any information on the maker - Chamberlin, of Anchorage Alaska. Any of you guys/gals know this maker???

BlueTic:According to Knives 2006, by J. Kertzman. There is a John Chamberlin from Ankorage Ak. He makes Hunters and Daggers using ATS-34, 440C and D2 steels. He also uses Alaskan handle material ie: oosic, jade, whale jawbone and fossil ivory. Your knife appears to be either linen micarta or fossil ivory. Prices start at $150. His mark is an English Shield and dagger which appears to be what your knife shows. Hope this helps

Thanks Flatlander. I tried googling but with no results. I'm guesing by the uniformity of the rings on the scales that it may be micarta. But it does have that Ivory golden tone. There were several knives at this one booth and all but a few were very well made. I've been eye-balling this one for a while - and finaly decided to just get it. The price was $195.00 but she gave me a 20% discount - so total with tax was $162.00....

Well I showed it to a friend who know such things and he said right off it was fossilized ivory and most likely walrus... Cool[8D][8D]

Mighty nice looking knife. It wouldn't do for me to own something like that, cause I'd just have to use it. I wonder how long it takes for ivory to take on that color. Nice.

Fishkiller - found it. It looks very ergonomic. I think I would lean more towards the Kajer with the single hook. I've looked at several gut hook blades, but haven't decided yet...

Duke Dudley has some awsome skinner/gutter designs, and i have NEVER felt a sharper hollow-ground edge from the factory either.I stropped mine on my pop's old razor strop and it polished the edge slightly sharper, but not much.
