Woman got loaded gun past TSA: report
By Jason Sickles, Yahoo! Staff Writer

At less than six inches and just under 10 ounces, the Ruger .380 is considered by gun owners to be a great little pocket pistol.

So small, in fact, that you can sometimes get one onto an airplane.

D'oh!

Yep, the New York Daily News reports that a woman flew 938 miles from Orlando, Fla., to Newark, N.J., on Thursday with a loaded .380 in her purse. United flight 15 was airborne before she realized what she'd done-and airport screeners had missed. (Oh, NO!) How the Daily News said it unfolded:

She didn't tell anyone on the plane about the weapon during the flight, which left Florida at 8:19 a.m.

But when she landed at Newark Airport at 10:24, she immediately told a Port Authority police officer. (*!)

The newspaper identified the woman as a 37-year-old Orlando firefighter. New Jersey officials called Florida authorities, but the Daily News says the Essex County prosecutor declined to prosecute the woman because she self-reported the incident.

"She was visibly upset. She said she had a license to carry it and just forgot it," said Al Della Fave, Port Authority police spokesman. "The [Port Authority] officer took possession of the handgun and made it safe." Well, did the officer keep it or give it back?

The Transportation Security Administration, meanwhile, had no immediate answers. No answers? LOL! Have you SEEN these people? Have you dealt with them? Mensa candidates they are not!

"TSA is aware of this situation and is reviewing the circumstances," said Lisa Farbstein, a spokeswoman for the agency told the Daily News.

Earlier this month, a poll found that nearly 46 percent of frequent fliers said they felt screening procedures were not effective in preventing acts of terrorism on an aircraft. But a separate poll reported that 54 percent of Americans (fliers and non-fliers) think the TSA is doing an excellent or good job of handling security screenings at airports. Yeah? The same 54% voted for the current impostor-in-chief.

So take your pick. Just remember to leave your pistol at home. NEVER! I don't fly, but if I were forced to, my pistol would go along, in my checked luggage, as it has before.

I sleep better at night knowing that the crack agents of the TSA are on their posts, protecting the flying public!

I have only had to fly once since TSA took over security. I felt like I had been molested by a big fat black man. I either drive or take the train when I go out of town. The only reason I flew that one time was because of an emergency.

I am really surprised the lady was not arrested. But then I am sure TSA is trying to come up with a way to do just that.

My comment "*" is for her telling on herself AFTER she landed. IIRC, there is no security checkpoint when leaving the plane. She was home free.

When you are ahead of the game, SHUT UP!

She told officers in New Jersey and lived to tell about it?
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

I had the good fortune to talk at length one day with an Israeli air port agent. We discussed our methods vs. theirs.
He basically said we got it all wrong. We look for guns and bombs.
The Israelis look for TERRORISTS. [:(!]

I come back from outside the U.S. through Miami Int.
Going through TSA, the last five out of six months the Xray machine found a rectangular image under my shirt. There is nothing there.
So I was groped. Gee, there was nothing there. I VERY POLITELY suggested that there was something wrong with the machine and they should have it fixed. Then they told me I had bought it and owned part of it. I explained that I understand the concept of being taxed with no say in what is done with my tax money. I politely said that I wasn't dumb enough to buy such a turd and whoever did should be fired. All the while my attitude and demeanor was one of being helpful because obviously they needed help. With many smiles and laughter.
I'm not sure if they realize the fun I was having with them. They sure take themselves seriously for a bunch of inbred [:)](probably)

Yeah, what the heck was she thinking! I would have exited that airport as fast as possible and kept my mouth shut!

didnt this happen not long ago? i think in that case it was a magazine or a knife. i cant immediately recall the pertinent details, but it was a similar set of circumstances where the person turned themselves in and was crucified for it. genius!

Look on the bright side - only 381 TSA "officers" have been fired for theft in the last 10 years.

If you have a permit to carry at least why does it have to be a federal case if someone forget the gun. I had a switch blade on me when I went into an Iron Maiden Concert when I was 16. I too forgot I had it on me. They flelt it and asked me what it was! I remembered and I just told them in a desparate kind of way it was not drugs.

Un believably they let me pass with out checking to see what it really was. I was dumb founded. They however were not TSA.

"The [Port Authority] officer took possession of the handgun and made it safe."

If it didn't "go off" on the plane or in Newfark, was the pistol ever "UNSAFE"???
