Looks like I'll be moving to FL in 2009

Don't know when, it'll be likely in Pembroke Pines though.

Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge about:

1. What I have to do, if anything, with my um, firearm owner manuals;

2. What kind of hunting (birds) is reasonably closeby;

3. Is there any public hunting land closeby;

4. Are there any decent ranges closeby?

Thanks

    Wow,......you have my sympathy.
    Broward county no less.

    Yes,......there are hunting areas close by.
    Birds? Quail and dove,....that's it.
    Ranges,....couldn't tell you now.

    No restrictions on any manuals, etc. unless they are federal. Not sure how moving would affect anything iwth a tax stamp, but there are no state restrictions on that stuff either.

    Not sure on the public hunting lands down there, too far south of me (I'm in the Gainesville area)

    Don't let your dog(s) roam free.
    Buy the biggest generator you can afford.
    And plenty of deep woods off.

    Haven't been in that area yet but there's hogs everywhere else I've been in Fl so far.

    I grew up in Florida. I escaped in 1986. I vowed never to move back.

    I am NOT relishing this move at all, but I'm trying to put my best face on it.

    My wife isn't happy either, mostly because she knows how unhappy I am about it, although she's never lived there, so it is a bit exciting for her. But, she's worried about having to restart her business there and moving away from her mother and, of course, all of our friends.

    Allen,

    I don't think it is legal to hunt on the beach. Plus, I think their boyfriends would probably get mad.

    Well the good news is that since the housing market is in the tank here in FL, you should be able to some pretty good deals out there. I have been here for 4 years and am still looking for some duck hunting opportunities.

    The housing market is, unfortunately, in the tank in Colorado, too.

    I'm hoping to sell this place without having to owe the bank money afterward... and no, I wasn't one of those that took a sub-prime mortgage and when I purchased this place, I put 20% down on a 30-year fixed.

    I'm trying to be positive about this, but I'm afraid that I'm going to go from being a homeowner for the last 13 years to probably renting for the next several years, since I'll likely have no money for a down payment.

    I know what you mean. If we had to sell our house in Tampa right now I doubt we could get what we paid for it 4 years ago; and we bought this before the prices skyrocketed. The folks that bought in late 2005 early 2006 are in much worse shape.

    Good luck selling, talk to your agent about "staging" the house for sale. May not be easy to live in, but it will definitely help you sell the house. Basically you just clear out all your personal stuff and any clutter. Makes the house look bigger....

    I don't think "staging" is the right answer, I think that having a "fire" sale is the right answer. Nearly 2/3 of the homes in this area are up for sale, many in foreclosure. I think I'm going to have to sell under the market value if I stand any chance of making the sale.

    The tough part of selling is that my office is in my home and I have an indoor dog.

    SS why do you have/want to move? Is it possible to "wait out" the housing/economy crisis? or are you out of work and the clock is ticking?

    The company that I'm with is small - there's a ton of stuff going on in Florida where we're headquartered. I've tried to make this mesh with my being in it at a long distance and it just isn't working out - I'm being left out of important decisions and I'm being treated like an ugly stepsister. I get saddled with a lot of the work that nobody else wants to do, and because nobody is really sure of what I do (since I'm not there), they have no clue what my workload is.

    For instance, I've got so much on my plate that I start work at 5am and take a few breaks during the day, but I'm usually working until 8pm, then I'm working weekends, and I've worked every holiday for the last year where we've been "closed" because I just can't keep up. I know for a fact that nobody else is putting in these kinds of hours and time. Yeah, I'm working today. Nobody else is.

    I've got an ownership stake in the company, and I want the company to do as best as it can. Also, I want to be part of making it a well-oiled machine. I can't do that from 2000 miles away.

    Things are really starting to pick up, despite the bad economy, and I want to be a part of it so that I can be viewed as a valued member of the team. The only way that this is going to happen is if I'm down there every day instead of being down there a week a month.

    I'm no yankee. I grew up in Miami, lived there for 17 years before leaving.

    Anyway, I wasn't ever aware that Coloradoans were considered yankees. This is the west, not the north.

    I didn't realize the market was that bad in CO. Best of luck with your move. Sounds like you're making the move for the right reasons.

    It gets hotter'n hell in the summertime but it's worth it from Oct. through April.[;)]
