Chinese tires and chicken feet

Seems like a bad rock band. But there is a connection. In the area I live in (northwest Tennessee) there is a Good year plant (union) and a Tyson plant (non union). My wife has worked at the Tyson plant for morn than ten years. The government decided to place a tariff on tires comimg from China. What happens when we get tires from China that are made cheaper, it drives the cost of American made tires down, at least that's the plan. Well China's just not going to seat around and take it up the (you know what). They in return placed a tariff on guess what? Chicken. So now my wife is worried about lay offs at the Tyson plant.

My question is, is the government trying to save union jobs and wages at the expense of non union jobs. For the life of me, I hope not. My wife is having a hard time with this, being worried about lossing her job.

The government is doing whatever is best for them....not the citizens of this nation. If it means 1 congressman gets a kickback or a campaign contribution, then most likely, the congressman will throw Tyson under the bus to earn his payoff.

WHO was a HUGE supporter of Obummer's last POTUS run?

    UNIONS.

At the local level, for the most part, unions are not so terrible.

The national level is a different story.

My wife works at a plant that made gaskets for company's like Harley Davidson, Whirlpool, GE and others. Alot of the companys they sold gaskets dumped them for the cheaper chinese gasket, only to come back to them monthes later. The exception of General Electric for GE dryers. Now the chinese just gave my wife co. the option to become a distributor of there gasket and stop making there own. Or be put out of business. She told me all week long that chinese have been at her work going over the books and checking out how there operation works.

Politicians will never learn that "protective" tarriffs just end up hurting everyone.

If the Chinese can make the same tires cheaper, then trying to protect American jobs by increasing the cost of the tires is a fool's errand.

All that happens is that all the tire-paying Americans have to spend more money to buy tires. . .money that would have otherwise gone ELSEWHERE in the economy to create OTHER jobs.

End result, a few more tire guys keep their jobs, but the "unseen Americans" LOSE their jobs. . .and every American who buys tires is screwed.

All this is, is a political kickback to the tire makers.

I don't care if * tires are cheaper...I just can't afford to drive on them...that is to say: I can't afford to have a freaking blowout at 75mph! [:D]

if their tires are anything like the POS computer hard drives that are coming out of Asia these days, I want nothing to do with them!
but I guess all that people give a crap about these days is more more more, and cheap cheap cheap, and they don't give a poop that the cheap crap breaks down and must be replaced all the time.

I bought a set of Kuhmo tires not knowing they were made in China, but probably would not have cared if they had been good tires.Worse tires I have ever owned.Noisy, poor ride and last about a third of what a decent tire should last.I look where tires are made now before I buy them now.
