Two children die in early-morning row house fire
From Staff Reports Cumberland Times-News
CUMBERLAND - Both a 10-year-old girl and her 7-year-old sister perished in an early-morning fire Friday in a row house on East Harrison Street.
The 10-year-old was in cardiac arrest when firefighters rescued her from a second-floor window, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
She received CPR and was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.
The 7-year-old was later found deceased inside the same building at 309 E. Harrison St., the fire marshal's office said.
The other occupants of the row house escaped the 6:05 a.m. blaze without injury.
About 100 firefighters from Allegany and Mineral County responded to the four-alarm call. One Cumberland Fire Department firefighter received non-life-threatening injuries and was treated on the scene, the fire marshal's office said.
The fire affected five row houses and the American Red Cross is providing assistance to the families involved.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
