My youngest son got back for the end of the 2nd week of dove season and had a pretty good time on the 2 acre sunflower patch I plant each year.

He shot his 15 bird limit in 45 minutes with 26 shots.

Had 5 on the ground at one point he hadn't picked up yet because they were coming in too fast to go out to retrieve the dead ones.

He shot the first one as he was setting up his stool in the flower rows, got one true double, and one with only one shell in his O/U because he didn't have time to load the second shell for a bird that was coming in right behind a couple others he shot at twice.

Fun "day" for him, and some more work for dad to help clean.

Don't fault him, I was happy to help.

I make it a point to avoid opening weekend. I had to have doc dig shot out of my hide opening day two years running.
Haven't hunted opening day of anything in over fifteen years.

Just found out a buddy has some land leased out on the Cap Rock in west Texas....some of the best bird hunting in Texas is out near the Cap Rock. Can't wait to head west for a weekend.
