Hi Guys!!!!

I can only be on for a little. Using a Genny to power the fridge and my computer. Been without power since 2:30am. Snow is still falling. Powerlines down all over....trees aren't just falling, they are literally SPLITTING due to the weight of the snow. Road Crews are actually getting stuck attempting to clean the roads. No traffic allowed unless emergency, or get a ticket.

Snow is approx 20 inches deep at my place and we're expecting at least another 10-20 more.

If you feel inclinded, look up Richwood, WV and surrounding areas.. you'll get the idea.

OK.. just wanted to let ya'll know that we're fine. Just a little chilly.. lol

As for the radio show.. I doubt there will be a show this Thursday, unless power is restored. I'll keep ya'll iinformed.

Chris - out

Man I am so lucky...I am just an hour or so from Beckley and we didn't have a single flake on the ground. We had 40-50 wind gusts, and the power flickered this morning, but over all it skirted right by us.

Hunker down and stay safe and warm. Have been thru Richwood many times on the way to fish the Williams and Cranberry rivers. A very beautiful place. I live here in the southern part, Williamson, on the Kentucky state line. Not much snow, just a couple of inches. I deer hunt every year in northern Pochahontas county. Called there yesterday around noon and they already had 6 inches. According to reports they expect 30 inches or more. Maybe another experience deer hunting there this year.

People sure do freak out over a little water.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

If you and your family need a place to stay, we have room for you here in Western Kentucky. Not much to do or see in this small town but we do have electricity.

thanks forklift.. but we're good. have a generator that we use at night to power my computer and my parent's tv so we can catch up on things and keep people informed. We have gas heat, so no worries there. They shut off the pumps, so we don't have water right now.. but we have plenty of snow to melt.

As you can see by the pics, we dug out the street today.. took us 7 hours to do....so now mom and I can go to work. We'll be able to pick up groceries and the like tomorrow.

Trees are down everywhere. I think my neighbors across the street learned a valuable lesson: ALWAYS keep cash on hand. $1million bucks in the bank doesn't mean squat if you have no power to the atms to access it.

Looks like an average "Lake Effect" snow storm that we get here in Central New York, but our Town & State road crews are equipped to deal with that much snow on a regular basis.

Glad to hear that you are all ok, be safe.

Thanks kimi.. we plan on :)

Marc - yep.. The ski resorts are in heaven after this

Perfect - I know. crazy aren't they? we use our genny for about 4 hours out of the night. nothing during the day except a battery operated radio. boil down the snow to flush the toilets... no big deal. people have and had it worse than this back in the day.

fordsix: don't keep alot in the fridges. we learned that lesson after the big storm knocked out power in July.

toby - yeah...I used to get the lake effect stuff living in Ohio. people around here just don't know how to prepare. even with days of warning like we had with this one.

That's what it looks like around here if we get a freak snow storm. Except they are Redwood trees. The two don't mix well![:D]

Stay safe and Warm! You too Woody!

We got that much snow in '93 down here. It was TERRIBLE!!! Alabama shuts down with 3 to 6 inches of snow.....imagine what happened when we were covered like that! I think we were without power for three weeks. The roads were closed everywhere because trees were down ALL OVER the place. It was a mess. I really feel for you guys!

    Stay warm!

How well I remember that one Kasey!!! My brother was in the hospital. I had to feed his cattle. Also, had to drive to work. It was a mess. We cooked on the wood heater and propane cooker.

Now, my wife would like to see about 3 feet of snow. Not me.

    Chris, stay safe.

    POWER CAME BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since I posted yesterday, The snow has started to relent. According to weather people, it's supposed to warm up a little.

But the snow has had some very ill effects.

The company for which I work had 2 locations shut down due to roof collapse. The weight of the snow was too much. As I type this, the owners are attempting to salvage inventory to bring to the other 2 locations in an attempt to lessen the loss. Many of the employees are asking if they are going to be laid off. Several private residences and an apartment complex have also had their rooves collapse.

Thousands more are still without power and running water. In the smaller communities, supplies are starting to see a huge hit as supply trucks have been delayed. Batteries are in short supply. But communities are holding. A local Foodland store also lost the snow/roof battle. Trees are still falling.

    Everyone.. stay safe out there.

    BB

My wife just saw those pics and said it looked like northern Michigan. It's probably the only thing she doesn't miss living in Nevada.
Hope your area pulls thru ok.

That would * Texas, we had a 1/10th of that back in February of 2011 and it almost shut down DFW and ruined the Super bowl.
