RADON GAS UPDATE,,,

If you recall,we did a Radon test in our home awhile back. The reading was 5.7 with 4.0 or above being in the danger zone. This test was done within our first year in the house and after being closed up tight for the winter.

Now for the update. We have had windows open and the house is able to breath and move air. We did another Radon test and the result read; < 0.6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! "lower than the lowest level or test will detect". We are just overjoyed with the results. Radon being real or not,I'm very pleased and thankful.

    Glad it worked out for you. How is radon not real?

    Well,when I posted originally,there was opinions/debate over radon being real and/or a concern.

    We passed on a house recently due to high Radon levels, and seller unwilling to mitigate. The house we ended up with has a similar reading to you, as close to 0 as we can get in Georgia.

    Have the test done next time, just before taking the storm windows and all the sealed in for the winter stuff off.
    If U had it done 2-3 mo. after opening the house up,of course,the reading will be low.
    I'm sure U know the reading would be skewed by taking it after opening up your house.
    You are a wise man Joe..and I hope the radon is dissipating in your area.

    That's what I had to prove to myself,and hoped for;
    Prior to the first test,the house was closed for ???? amount of time.
    Simply blowing out the house by means of open windows only,eliminated the gas. Thus the gas isn't just billowing like a geyser into the house.
    Allowing the house to breath some year round will keep us well in the safe zone.
    Don't have to spend thousands for a vacuum/pump system.

    You don't plan on keeping your windows open in the winter do you? If you close them up it's going to be right back where it was unless you've been sealing cracks in the concrete floor or putting a vapor barrier in the crawl space etc.

    Going to keep windows open some,until -20 hits. But still plan on doing occasional blow downs during the winter.

    Joe,

    When I bought my house in 2003, a pump that is on 24/7 has to be installed mitigate the radon problem.
