300 WBY mag, quiet brake

Got a 300 WBY a while back. The original stock was a no go, I'm convinced it'd dislocate your shoulder. Got this recoil reducing stock, took out quite a bit of felt recoil. Problem with it is that everything forward of the grip bucked wildly. I'm talking bounce put of the rest wild. Got it threaded and installed a gentry quiet break. Now, I've shot 243's that kick worse.

Looks much like the brake my wife has.

We have brakes on both the girl's 30-378's & my Lapua.

IMO any large magnum light enough to stalk with should have one.

Ear protection can be bumped up a level also IMO.

This brake vents everything forward and really isn't loud... when you are standing behind the muzzle. Can't vouch for the other side, but I can imagine ~90 grains of powder being directed a certain direction is quite deafening.

The brake on my .375 H&H:

It sounded like and threw air around like this. Not a bad tradeoff, though. It was more pleasant, recoil-wise, than my 8mm-06.

Have the same setup on my 300 win mag. recoil is about what my ar is. It's loud as hell though. Was shooting at a coyote that was about 600 yards out. Laid the gun across the hood of the suburban and shot the yote. Seen another one and lined up for that one and happened to look into the suburban and everyone in there had there ears plugged. Guess it was loud in there also.

I'm a big muzzle brake fan; I'm sure it reduces felt recoil but I really don't know why Gentry called it quiet brake[?][:p] All muzzle brakes are loud. [:D]

Watch out for debris when shooting prone with radial brakes! [}:)]

They called it quiet brake because it vents the noise and gases forward. Quieter when you are behind the rifle. Forward of it, probably not so much (haven't stood on that side of it).

I used to have one and did not care for it at all (for my intended use); or is quieter than any of my existing muzzle brakes.
