Although what do I know, I'm just a squid.
Does that mean that the hain of command pressed for charges and a trial or does it mean they pressed the prosecution to drop the charges?
Since the Marines consider themselves a Marine forever, do they have a procedure for "disbarring" an ex-marine? I nominate Murtha. He is a disgrace to the Corps.

Like you say, River Rat, Murtha is a disgrace to the Corps.
What does "undue command influence" mean? I'm asking because that was the reason cited for the prosecution dropping charges against Marine #7.

In my mind, it might well mean that the prosecutor has a military bossman whose desirous of a particular outcome, such as one that might have direct influence over another's fitness report/career. Think scapegoat.
But does that mean someone pressed for charges where none were due or someone is covering up an embarrassing truth?
I'm not sure I'd be happy with either one.
kimi,

Again, in my mind, it could mean that the prosecution has too much pressure being applied to them by someone, to such an extent that someway this pressure came to the forefront of this case. For example, if there are powers to be, somewhere, who wants to see someone's head-roll enough, there might be some coercion involved that has not surfaced as yet.

I agree, Kimi. They needed a scapegoat for the My Lai massacre in 1968 and Lt. Calley was held responsible. Now, Sgt. Frank Wuterich's * is on the line although charges against his superiors and subordinates have been dismissed. The press has a field day when we "embarrass" Muslim prisoners but continue to turn on their own service members. It's a national disgrace as is John Murtha. [:(!]
Sort of like the cop on the scene after the fact deciding who was guilty, and telling the judge to find it that way.
Surely there are a few former-Marine attorneys out there who are pissed off/offended by his actions....
Where is the New Yourk Times now??? Do they even mention that these guys have been found not guilty??? they should be ashamed of themselves for slandering these marines before a trial. [xx(]
They opted to run something about Michelle Obama's look instead [xx(][:(][:(!][V]
