when I first
started "collecting" guns anything priced above 250 bucks was a "mmmm...Ill think it over" now, I look at guns in the thousands of dollars and
somehow can justify them...I have lost my friggin mind...

As I explained to my long-suffering wife--I have never, ever paid too much for a gun; I just bought it earlier than what other people do. [:D]

I always tell people....you can buy a "good," cheap, gun and never get half of your money back....BUT....a GREAT gun in a decent price range is ALWAYS a money-making investment. If given the chance, get the gun that will be able to MAKE money...its not hard to see the investment of a gun, so it is pretty easy to explain this reasoning to anyone.

I don't really consider the monetary value of a firearm, sice I have no intention of ever selling them, and after I die, if the kids sell them if they're that dumb, I don't care what they get.

Guns are no different than anything else, the rare and popular will always rise in value if the supply is stopped. The key is figuring out what will stay popular.
A few things popular right now won't be in a few years.
Things like .500 caliber pistols. Remember the 10 guage? They were no fun to shoot either, so don't get stuck with one.
Another item that will lose favor is certain calibers. WSM's, RUM's, and the like. Unless a caliber sells enough to keep a production line going, expect to see them phased out. Like the 10mm, I expect the .357 Sig to die which is too bad because like the 10mm, it is actually a fine cartridge.

Value is only as good as what you or someone else gives to it.

Since the 10mm is going the way of the DoDo bird, all you guys with NIB Colt Gold Cup Deltas will be clamoring to sell cheap, right? I want one cheap, or cheaper than what I see listed on GB. Where do you all get the idea that 10mm is going down the tubes. It is a fine round, a nich round agreed. It is still good.

I auctioned my nib 10mm Delta Elite stainless with a buy it now of $1,000.00 and in about ten minutes some fool emailed and offered $1,200.00 to withdraw the auction before anyone had a chance to bid. I don't understand that one.
