Isn't the Smith and Wesson 686 (and sister 586) the world's best revolver currently in production?

    I think Korth would disagree.

Well, Hell, Doc. Put it that way...

I had three S&W's before the boating accident, and wouldn't have traded them for anything. But I gotta tell ya, for sheer indestructibility, I give extremely high marks to Ruger revolvers. I've had two in single action and one in double action. That Security Six is the one gun I regularly kick myself for ever selling.

What the hell kind of question is that?

I would liken it to asking those of us with more then 1 kid which one we love the best.

    Hey Andy!

I never owned or much less ever shot a Ruger.

I came upon my 686-5 after I traded for a piece of crap Glock 23.

    No regrets.

It seems to me that there were fewer 586's manufactured. I could be wrong.

wundudnee or Saxon Pig know more about S&W's than I'll ever know.

Had a 19 but traded it (wish I hadn't). Have a 586, the 586 shoots a helluva lot better. But I still have a place in my cabinet for a 19 if I ever find a good deal.

I've got a pre-19 at the shop that is my brothers. It is in pretty bad finish shape, but it still locks up tight! It was a duty pistol at one time for someone. I've had no problems at all with any of the S&W K frames or L frames. The are all excellent weapons.

I have both, prefer the 586. But the 19 is no slouch either.

    Can't go wrong either way

    The 19 has more panache.

Most real S&W lovers prefer the earlier P&R guns.

Real manly S&W lovers like 'em in "N" frame.

Of the two, I prefer K frames. Just don't like them new-fangled L frames.

And I REALLY like N frames.

I can't think of any reason to buy a double action revolver other than Smith and Wesson.

    MANLY N frame? OK.

But K frames are cool, too.

So are J frames, for that matter.

I even let the I frame sneak in.

While I have far more S&Ws than anything else, I still love my Colts.

Doc find ya a Pre 1973 Ruger Blackhawk that has not had the retrofitted transfer bar safety installed and you will fall in love[;)] There are darn few single action's out there other than say a Freedom Arms that will have such a sweet action[:D] I have owned Ruger double action revolvers as well and found them strong as the proverbial ox but they for some reason are not as accurate as their single action brothers-or as accurate as a Colt or S&W.

They are both fine revolvers imho, but the k frame is a thing of beauty. There is nothing quite as sexy as a nice p&r model 19.

Oh, agreed. the Model 19 has sex appeal, but as a SHOOTER I'd the the 586 any day

There is no doubt that the L frame will digest many more full magnum rounds

Indeed you are correct. I loved my 686-M before it melted down in my safe. Best handgun ever produced. No arguments are even valid against that point!!

How about a fine model 27?

I have the 686 but you might not like the short barrel?
