Makes one wonder how the Japs got to keep their national battle flag when The Swastika is banned in Germany, does it not? Truman must have bowed to their demands in this regard. Just flying this navy flag should send chills down any WWII veterans.

Abe's moves to ease Japan's pacifist constitution and its build up in defense capabilities is unnerving neighbor China.

Japan is also adding longer-range patrol aircraft and military cargo planes to its defense capability, and buying Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jets, amphibious assault vehicles and Boeing's Osprey troop carrier, which can operate from the Izumo.

The Izumo does not have a catapult necessary to launch fixed-wing fighters, but a planned vertical-take-off-and-landing (VTOL) variant of the F-35 could fly from the Izumo's flight deck.

Hopefully their engineers can figure the F-35 out. Ours certainly can't.

Very impressive ship. I'm glad the JMSDF is expanding. I'm fairly certain the Chinese will, subconciously anyway, fear Japan more than America in the region.

The Japanese are expanding their capabilities exactly because they see the lack of support coming from the US.

Remember the 'Pivot to Asia' the Man-child in Chief gave a speech about? The pivot stopped when the speech was done.

Adults in the world actually understand why China is building a blue water navy, even if CJ is to self absorbed to wonder.

The Japanese will be OK towards the USA from now on. Unlike Europe, and their short memory of American involvement, the Japanese can still measure our displeasure with a Geiger counter.[:D][;)][}:)][:D][:D]

the Chinese still remember Nanking and realize it could happen again if they get froggy with the Japanese.

Maybe we should sink it like we did the rest of their carriers

The Japanese Naval Ensign doesn't bother me. I believe that they are more closely aligned with the USA now than anyone else in eastern Asia. (I also REALLY like their views regarding muslims).

With China's rise, we need all the help we can get in the region.

The Hiryu class aircraft carriers of WWII were about 750 ft long. During WWII our carriers were about 850 gt long. The USS Ronald Reagan is about 1050 ft long. If the Izumo is 750 ft long, with no catapult, carrying about 450 sailors and GOK what for defensive weapons - I guess it's a good start but I don't know that it would last all that long in battle.

One hopes the Japanese Navy has better fire control assests and procedures than they did in WWII.[;)]
