95 and going strong

My dad hit 95 yesterday. He decided to go all out for the occasion, so he spent part of the day at the farm working on a set of brakes, cutting the tails off of his lambs, sanding and prepping a couple of lawnmower hoods for me to spray-paint (oh joy) and spraying his fruit trees for bugs and fungi, then had supper with us before going home. Not too bad for the afternoon, since he spent the morning working on an article he is writing for the paper. When I'm his age, I will have been dead for 20 years, but he's sure been a great example to grow up around, although a real tough act to follow.[:)]

You should try your best to talk him into sitting down and writting his life story.

Instead of writing a story get a tape recorder. Carry it around and turn it on when he starts to tell a story. My brothers and I learned this too late and only got maybe forty hours of my dads voice telling stories we heard going up. He could have easily talked for a thousand hours and still not tell us everything. I really miss him.

You're probably right about that. He graduated from the first college he attended at the age of 20 (he has about 10 1/2 years worth) and then put his sister through because he thought women were going to need and be able to use more education in the future than they could back in 1931. He was a bit ahead of his time on some things, and always willing to help someone who was making an effort.

Some large shoes to fill there.
Good for him, he is doing more than "some" I know, at half his age.
