How many of you guys and gals are left-handed ? I bring this up because a kid in the local gun shop said " that's gotta suck bein' left-handed." little idiot. It hasn't sucked my entire life . I feel more comfortable shooting with my left hand and if I have to I will shoot with my right hand . I just do whats natural to me and most people find it interesting that i'm a lefty. Anybody else been told that being a lefty has got to be hard ?

I'm right handed but I've been slowly training myself to shoot with either hand with pistols.
Poor marksmanship so far but I'm improving

I am almost there. I am lefthanded but can shoot pistols with either hand. Rifle lefthanded only.

Actually many sinidexterous individuals are killed and injured each year attempting to use devices designed for use by right-handed persons.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

I am left handed and shoot anything. The only discomfort I have gotten is that some times I get the hot brass in the face with a semi-auto rifle (mostly AR15/M16). And the way I shoot the ar15/m-16 that brass deflectof they make for them smashes my nose and makes it harder to shoot, so I just deal with it.
Also I hate the stocks that have the cheek rest for a right handed person. Just gets in my way.

I'm left handed, shoot rifle&shotgun right handed, but can shoot them left handed. I shoot pistol left handed only though, shoot a bow left handed.
They say 'we're' accident prone, don't believe it, I've only had 9 concussions[:D]. Also, the average left hander lives to the ripe old age of 62. I guess I'm a short timer.[8]Dave

Never thought it made much difference except for the right handed palm swell they build into every shotgun and the shells flying across your field of view when using a semi-auto shotgun. Got hold of a left handed 1187 12 gauge and found that I rarely missed in the dove fields with it. I guess that those shells crossing your line of sight does have an effect whether you think it does or not. I shoot pistols right handed primarily, but as with rifles I'll use which ever side feels best that day. Usually one eye is still working fairly well.

I right-handed and can shoot pistols equally well with both hands and don't have much trouble shooting a rifle left-handed from a rest. Guess I could use a shotgun from the hip left-handed if I had to. As far as CCW is concerned, I think it's good to train using either hand; you never know when your strong hand might get disabled in a fight.

Just ONE of the advantages of "being" left-handed is that we rarely, if ever get a "Stove-pipe" jam when firing a semi-auto pistol (our movement upon recoil is up and to the left - case is ejecting right - right handed shooters chase that case)

You might want to tell "the kid in the gun shot shop" that

it was researched a few years ago about hand vs. eye dominance , the finding was a bit unpredictable, #1 shooter with accuracy and speed was left handed right eye dominant, followed by left handed left eye dominant

although i got debated on the cross dominance, and how to "not fix" it here, you will find some of the top handgun shooters who ever lived where left handed, and cross dominant

Lefty here for rifles and handguns.
Qualified Marksman in the Army right handed.
    Qualified Expert left handed.

I found from shooting M16's right handed: that more gas and carbon went into my right eye, than shooting lefty.

I'm a lefty. No real problems that were not easily overcome. I have had to add an Ambi-safety to several semi-autos and have even set up few with the safety on the right side only.

I am more comfortable shooting right handed bolt action rifles becasue that is all I have ever owned. The last time I tried to shoot a left hand model it did not seem natural at all.

I'm pretty much ambidextrous, but one thing I could never get down was shooting a bow lefty. I can print but not write lefty. I have noticed through the years that the world pretty much was designed with righties in mind and have also thought that at least at times it must be a bit of a pain being strictly lefty. Just my opinion.

I am a lefty. I can shoot either hand rifle or pistol and am mostly ambidextrous. My dad (totally ambi) taught me at an early age to shoot with both hands as one of my uncles lost his right eye in an accident and had to try to learn to shoot left handed. I have shot 10's of thousands of rounds through AR15/M16 rifles with no problems but I hate right hand thumbhole stocks and right hand target grips on pistols! I think it is easier to reload a revolver lefthanded and for bigger auto pistols it is easier to reach the mag release and slide stop with my Left index finger than for most right handed people to reach it with their thumb.

    That's gotta suck bein' left-handed.

Seriously though, I think the dominate eye is more important than which hand you shoot with. I'm right handed, and when I shoot pistols left handed I have to close my right eye or the target is the only safe place around.
The road to hell is paved with COMPROMISE.

I am also in the crowd of right handed people who shoot left-handed. It is not a problem at all. That is except for Muzzle Loaders ... so I'm going to get myself a Hopkins & Allen Under Hammer smoke pole![:D]

Lefty. With the addition of an ambi safety, I think the 1911 is better suited for lefties. The mag release and slide release are all within easy reach of my index finger, so I'm a little quicker on them. Only problem I've had was with an M1 carbine that consistently ejected brass on the top of my head.

I'm left-handed as well. About the only thing that I won't shoot are handguns specifically designed for right-handed people (IOW, the grip and clip release are specificly designed that way). I shoot "standard" rifles, shotguns and handguns. I get used to the fact that brass is ejected across my face -- I'm simply sure not to get my face in the way! [8D]

I can shoot right-handed -- at least handguns (no long guns). I'm not the most accurate human being with my right hand, but I can put a bullet on paper at 25 yards. I think it is important to be able to shoot somewhat accurately with either hand in the event that one arm becomes injured or incapacitated and you need to defend yourself.

I'm right handed but left eye dominant. My father was watching me shoot a BB gun when I was 7 and noticed that even when shooting right handed I twisted my neck around until I coulr see the sights with my left eye. I then told me if he ever saw me shooting right handed again he would take my BB gun away. Now I shoot fairly well with either hand. The only time I have trouble is when snap shooting a shotgun right handed. I prefer left handed bolt guns, left handed bows, ambidextrous shotguns, and right handed pistols.
