James Earl McCollum
DUNCANVILLE James Earl McCollum, age 75, of Duncanville, died June 12, 2008, at UAB Hospital. A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with Rev. Sandy Falkins officiating.
Mr. McCollum was born in Tuscaloosa County; he attended Tuscaloosa High School where he met and married Jane Martin. He was employed by the Alabama National Guard for over 40 years. He retired in 1993. This allowed him to devote all his time to his real vocation as a professional gunsmith. He first opened Circlewood Gun shop in 1952 and for 50 years he served generations of hunters and gun enthusiasts. He was in his shop six days a week until four weeks ago. He was a distinguished marksman who later became the shooting coach for the Alabama National Guard Rifle Team. He was also involved with the Civilian Marksmanship Program at the Anniston Army Depot. In his later years he enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with his large family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the NRA Youth Shooters Program, c/o National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030, The American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Parkway, Suite 1, Marietta, GA 30067, or the charity of your choice.
