FRED SHUSTER
SPECIAL TO THE STAR

LOS ANGELES-Madonna's new world tour kicked off Sunday, and the Church of England immediately weighed in with a bad review - something about the singer wearing a crown of thorns while being crucified on a mirrored cross.

It was a spectacularly exciting two-hour show, packed with skin-baring dancers, fine singing, some of the best dance music of the decade and one of the most memorable stage entrances in memory. And it included a scene where Madonna - age 47 and the mother of two - sang the ballad "Live to Tell" suspended from a giant cross.

Madonna's elaborately staged "Confessions" road show, which occupied a gigantic high-tech T-shaped stage, took in 22 songs from all aspects of her career, thematically broken into four sections.

The tightly choreographed concert began when a giant crystal disco ball was lowered from the ceiling to the end of a long catwalk stretching deep into the audience. Out popped Madonna, a dominatrix in jodhpurs, top hat and snapping a jewelled riding crop, delivering the recent "Future Lovers," surrounded by male dancers.

Madonna was in thrilling, non-stop-action mode, strutting up and down the catwalk, crawling on all fours, offering some expert pelvic thrusts and holding attention all around. The singing was strong, the material well chosen, and accompaniment by a top-notch, seven-member ensemble was solid.

The dozen or so dancers had as many costume changes as the headliner. Gymnasts worked out on platforms while massive video screens showed images of war, world leaders, horses - and Madonna.

While it was a flashy Hollywood production, there seemed to be little room for ad-libs, although Madonna did throw in some expletives to urge a sing-along during the finale of her current disco anthem, "Hung Up," as Mylar balloons fell

if it critizes Christianity then it is art. Anyone other religion, race, sexual orientation, ethinicity, or gender than it is racist, hateful and mean spirited

    And by the way.

While the-artist-currently-known-as-Madonna has no problem trashing her own birth-religion to generate controversy and sell tickets, when it comes to performing in the actual birthplace of Jesus (ie Israel), she refused, backing down from terrorist threats against her children.

    quote:http://www.israelnewsagency.com/madonnaisrael609869.html

The reports quoted an associate of the singer as saying that Madonna was "not ready to take chances with her kids."

The threats were apparently delivered to Madonna's office in Los Angeles. According to The Sun, they also "displayed in-depth knowledge" about the singer's aides. Madonna said that she had canceled three Israeli stops on her "Re-Invention" tour because of violence in the region, including the killing of the leader of the terror group Hamas.

Madonna, told "Access Hollywood" that her manager wouldn't let her travel to Israel because of the "attack on the leader of Hamas."

"It's not a good idea to go there and do concerts," she told the syndicated entertainment TV show in an interview that aired Monday.

Asked by "Access Hollywood" if she had been threatened, she replied: "No, if I had my way, I'd go. My manager wouldn't let me."

I began to dislike Madonna when she first came on the scene and she made the off the cuff comment that she wanted to have Christ's baby. She only said that for the shock value and she's been doing that kind of thing ever since. She has some talent, I'll give her that, but her morals and tact have never been worthy of her fame.

Its not art by no means. Madonna is a PIG, this is just what she wants to happen, people looking at her and wanting to state thier opinion about her. She is a media fatlady! People like her and Tom Cruise think people actually want to know what they are thinking, who gives a sh** about what they think. During election years you have actors and music people giving thier opinions about things they know nothing about, just stick to the acting or music if I wanted thier opinion I would crack thier head open and dip it out myself.

1st reaction was the same as Bobski. I wanted to slap her silly and tie her pigtails in knots.

2nd reaction was to agree with Plink and Clouder...business is business.

How I really feel? Pity and compassion. For a person to have to resort to the things she does to make her living deserves my pity and compassion.

My Lord gave his only son in the end that all shall be forgiven. It is the essence of the Christian faith to forgive.

Neither are you...or I...or anyone else for that matter. That's the whole reason for the sacrifice in the first place.

This line of thought certainly does not come from the Bible...or at least any of mainstream Christianity's translations of the Bible.

    ...if only it were true...

    just a few-

    Matthew 6:14-15

(14)For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.(15)But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

    Matthew 18:35

So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

    Mark 11:35-36

(35)And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. (36)But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

I think there is a line or two in the LORD'S PRAYER about forgiving too.

Freedom of Speech is a sacred right for all Americans. It is guaranteed by our Constitution for all and many men and women sacrificed and continue to sacrifice life and limb to preserve that right for us. Perhaps the greater question we should ask here is "just because you can legally do something distasteful, boorish, insulting, irreverent, demeaning and plain out stupid, does Freedom of Speech imply that you have to do it? Or that you should do it?" Face it folks, she's 47, old news and desperate to get herself smack back in the middle of the headlines, no matter what the sentiment. Tact, diplomacy and common sense are not, in my opinion, synonymous with Madonna. Also, I tend to think that people who truly understand and embrace their own religion in turn show respect for the religions of others.

Blasphemy? Hardly. The art is apparent if one considers Madonna's own crucifixion for Swept Away. When viewed in this light, the symbolism becomes clear: the pain of crucifixion, rising from the dead and the hopeful rebirth into the star she once was. The mirrored cross is also symbolic, suggesting that those who so bitterly and eagerly crucified her need also look at themselves, from all sides and all angles, to see how they, too, both emotionally and spiritually, are similarly impaled.

heh-heh-heh. Sometimes I crack myself up.
