Thinking about a rifle build
use enough gun

I've had my gundealer buddy looking for a long action for me. I'd like to build a 45/120 bolt gun. 12-14lb rifle, I've always wondered what this cartridge is capable of loaded to 52,000cup with some of the modern powders. My old Hi-Wall could push a 300grn jhp to nearly 2800fps. Thoughts? Dave

Not up to snuff on many of the newer post 1850 firearms but do enjoy building and shooting all of the guns I keep around.
Here is a 50 caliber I built with deHass oct to round barrel and a Siler flintlock. Have taken several nice white tails with this one.

I've always been fascinated by the 45/120. It's basically the same cartridge as a 450 nitro but with a thicker rim. My old Hi-Wall was made in 1888, I've never been able to really push the envelope with. And with its original stock and buttplate it can be brutal to shoot with heavy loads. Dave
