Group Plans Vigil Before SC Man's Execution

COLUMBIA (AP) - An anti-death penalty group plans to hold a vigil outside the South Carolina prison where a man is set to be put to death by electrocution.

The Christian Action Council says it will have signs available for anyone wishing to participate Friday before the 6 p.m. execution of James Earl Reed.

Reed has been on South Carolina's death row since 1996 for the murders of his ex-girlfriend's parents. Reed represented himself during his trial, denying the killings despite a confession and arguing that no physical evidence placed him at the scene.

Jurors found him guilty and decided he should die.

Reed would be the first person electrocuted in South Carolina in more than four years. Most executions have been carried out by lethal injection.

I read my Bible pretty regularly, and so far it clearly supports capital punishment for capital crimes. Haven't found anything that says otherwise. I prefer my literal, redneck Christianity to the namby-pansy version espoused by some. Jesus was NOT a pacifist, but rather is the Prince of Peace. Peace He will establish with a sword when he returns. We must forgive, but then the perp must also pay the price for his deeds. And he must truly regret his deeds.

Texas has an express lane for executions.

I am completely against electrocution. Global Warming is serious business and think of how much this man will continue to contribute to the degradation of the world in which we exist. Should this man's last actions REALLY be geared toward further ruining our world?

Instead, we should make him have sex with Rosie O'* and Janet Reno... or would that be considered cruel and unusual punishment?

Everyone in prison is innocent,......you didn't know that?
    Fry him,....inject him,....shoot him,.......no difference to me.

You suppose we could get him to hold a couple of chickens during execution? There's got to be some of those protesters out there who would love to have some fried chicken.

Sounds to me like he should have been fried 12 years ago.[}:)]

A defendent in a capital case who decides to represent himself must have a death wish, so crank up the juice.

Does the electric-chair tap its power from the utility lines? Do they use step-up transformers and rectifiers? (I think the "chair" is direct current). What say ye all? Joe

So if a cannibal is next in line to be executed, can the cannibal ask for Reed as his last meal?
After all, Reed will be pre-cooked.

Or should he be further cooked and sent as food-aid to africa or a homeless shelter?

Whatever they do, I hope his internal organs are undamaged and given to someone who could use them.

Death by organ harvesting..... no anethesia for especially cruel murderers

So will the real Christians please stand up? [:D]

What does the bible preach overall in this regard. Be a literal redneck killer or a namby-pansy pacifist? Even if religion wasn't a fantasy for the unknowing, it would be hard to believe that it's ideal would be some yokel straight out of "Deliverance".

Well in that case, I will turn off all the power in my house at exactly 11:59pm to help with his execution.

I'm pretty sure that it is AC,
hence the archaic term "Westinghouse him", since Westinghouse was a proponent of AC current and Edison (DC current) wanted to villify him (or actually his AC current) in the public eye

    The chair uses AC.

Not sure what voltage level they use for executions.

It comes on site at 4160 or 13.8kv, no need to step that up, might want to step it down some.

I've been around when someone was accidentally killed with 13.8kV, not a pretty sight.

If I had a choice, I'd take the needle.

If they really want to support him they should sit in his lap.

I think we need to get rid of the electric char and install and electric couch.

It varies somewhat from state to state, but they generally use multiple jolts of around 2500 volt/10 amp.

    From the site..

"Volunteer" refers to inmates who have voluntarily waived their normal appeals (not necessarily that they have volunteered for execution).

    That is funny right there..

Drowning is better. That way you could execute them more than once if they killed more than one person.
