Third Mole

Moles attacked me hard already this winter so I had to fight back.
3 down already...
I am patiently waiting for #4,#5,#6 or however many want to hang out in my yard.
I usually set the trap until they quit digging, whether by their choice or otherwise.

I heard somewhere that a very effective way to discourage moles is to sprinkle your urine on your lawn.
Of course, your grass dies, and your backyard smells like a port-a-pot, hey, but no moles....[xx(]

Can you skin it and do something with the pelt? Their fur is very soft.

That may be why I have no moles. I sprinkle the lawn regularly. [;)]

Hikers like the fur for the blisters they get on their feet while on hiking trips.

What do you use for bait?

    No bait required.
With this trap I just use a clam shovel to dig down where they have made a mole hill and find their tunnel on both sides of the hole.
The hole needs to be the same size as the trap and then I just set it up where the body grippers are right inside of the tunnel openings.
I always push a little dirt into the tunnels so the mole starts pushing the dirt out and when he gets enough dirt under the trap the dirt triggers it.
Its a real easy set once you know how.
After it is set I place a 5 gallon bucket upside down over it all to keep it dark in his hole.

I have a good mole story. Had them tearing up the back yard so a friend of mine suggested dumping gasoline in the tunnel and then light it. I started with a quart of gas. I dumped it in, waited about 15 minutes for the fumes to fill the tunnel, poured a trail of gas and lit it. Not much happened. So buddy and I then poured about 5 gallons of gas in the tunnel. Waited about 30 minutes for fumes to fill the tunnels. Then we poured a gas trail away from the tunnel and lit it. As the flame traveled to the tunnel, se stood there drinking beer and watched. KABOOM. My whole backyard shook. Then the ground started smoking everywhere there was a tunnel. Grass didnt grow back on those tunnels for two years but the mole or moles left my back yard. Bad thing is that the moles then started tearing up my front yard. DAMN Moles!!!!!

We seldom have to set a trap as the two rat terriers usually keep them
thinned out. It's fun to watch them work. They'll get one at each end
of the tunnel, bark and dig until they get one.[:)]

My labs have been running around the yard tossing them in the air and generally having a great time with them. They play with a dead mole better than any toy i have come up with.

Moles tear up your yard looking for grubs. Grubs are the larvae of June bugs/Japanese beetles. Spray your yard twice a year (May/Sept.)with Triazicide. You can get it at wallieworld.

You ought to have seen the trench Ozzy and Rosso dug in our back yard. About 6 inches deep 8 inches wide and probably 12-14 feet long.
I ain't sure which is worse, the moles or my Spins.

You can see them moving under the ground. One of my my neighbors used to stand in his yard with a frog gig and spit them, He would stand out there for hours in the late evening.. I guess retirement gets boring.

If your soil isn't to sandy...The best way to get rid of them is to put a garden hose down the highest hole and turn it on. It will drown all the pesky little boogers you have...

I bought a house that had some acreage and the first thing I did was that was...It took like 10 hours to fill all the tunnels in the neighborhood. But we didn't have a mole problem after that.

My neighbor said he had lived there for 15 years, and no matter what he, or anyone else had done, they couldn't get ride of them because there was such a huge infestation

I lived there for about 10 years, and they never returned

All the ones I've killed were clean. You'd think they'd be dirty living underground and all.

We've been living in our current home for six years. In those past six years, I've killed 38 moles in our back yard. Moles are territorial. Usually, you'll only have 2 or 3 in your yard at a time. When I see that there is a fresh mole hill, I'll watch it early in the morning. When you see the mole digging, you jab a shovel right behind them and dig up the little critter. Then, you toss him in the air and have one round of mole baseball!!! Like I said, I've killed 38 since we've been here. Even the wife has killed one or two this way.
