Franks: GI Deaths Is the Cost of Security
By COLIN FLY, Associated Press Writer
Sun May 21, 7:45 AM ET

MILWAUKEE - Those who count the increasing number of American soldiers killed in Iraq are missing the bigger picture, retired Gen. Tommy Franks said Saturday night.

"What we're talking about is neither 2,400, 24,000 or 240,000 lives," Franks said at the National Rifle Association's annual banquet. "Terrorism is a thing that threatens our way of life. It doesn't have anything to do with politics."

More than 2,400 soldiers have died since the beginning of the invasion of Iraq, the plan for which Franks developed and executed. He also oversaw combat in Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"I watched as America changed," Franks said. "That's not near done. We have to secure ourselves. We have to secure our Constitution."

During his 30-minute speech, Franks took an occasional jab at the media and fellow generals for attacking Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

"We haven't got any generals here. They're all in front of TV cameras complaining about Don Rumsfeld," Franks deadpanned. "Difference is, I know what I'm talking about."

Franks staunchly defended his friend - even as he called him "grumpy" and "grouchy."

"I don't care about your politics. I don't. Don Rumsfeld is an American patriot."

Franks retired in 2003 after a 36-year career in the Army, highlighted by becoming commander of Central Command in June 2000. He received warm ovations from the 3,000 NRA members in attendance.

"It makes me think about going into politics," Franks said. "The great blessing is that thought doesn't last long."

And, if you agree with his comments, consider this as well:

Tommy Franks Says Bush May Discard Constitution If Another Terrorist Attack Occurs
by Rob
Fri Nov 21, 2003 at 03:30:54 AM PDT

Gen. Tommy Franks said in an interview with the lifestyle magazine Cigar Aficionado that if another terrorist attack occurs in the United States "the Constitution will likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government" The stunning revelation is the headline story on the right-wing news site NewsMax for Friday. Franks said that another terrorism attack will result in "... the Western world, the free world, loses what it cherishes most, and that is freedom and liberty we've seen for a couple of hundred years..." He indicated that if another terrorism attack occurs Bush will likely declare martial law and the Constitution will apparently be "discarded".

[:(][:(]I suspect General G?ring might have said something along those lines to Adolf when discussing the possibility of fires in the Reichstag.

hopefully most soldiers (or at least the majority) will remember that their oath is to the US Constitution, not to any specific leader who chooses to suspend the Constitution on a whim.
At least they are men and not clone troopers programmed to obey "order 66"

Don't kid yourself, how many solders participated in the illegal confiscation of guns in New Orleans?
Most Police officers across America act in conflict to the Constitution daily.

Franks has always struck me as a dumb *, and this clinches it.
I bet the number of troops killed would matter to you, if the last one had been your son, especially if you realized that the Iraq disaster is of no help in the "war on terror".

I'd have to say zero to that question. I could be wrong, but I havent seen anywhere where the troops there acted as a police force. The only way they confiscated weapons would have been if they were defending themselves.

If you have proof, could you post it please?

    Thanks

    Patricia Konie.

It was caught by Fox News. She lived in a dry part of New Orleans and this is what happened:

    http://pun.org/josh/archives/Patricia Konie Gun Confiscation.wmv

They fractured her arm and it required surgery....they tackeled an old lady in her own home for nothing and took her gun.

These were California Police Officers that were being paid by FEMA and thus are Federal Police Officers...jack booted thugs or soldiers of the King. Whichever term you wish to use.

They got away with many, many crimes including knocking down and jacking up little old ladies.

ROB: this is as much as I could find implicating the Nation Guard in the confiscation of weapons in La.

This is a paragraph from one of the original protests:

quote:Prohibiting" authority applies to the sale of alcohol, presence on public streets, and the sale of goods or services at excessive prices. "Regulating" authority applies to firearms, flammable materials, and sound devices (such as megaphones). The "regulating" authority is undoubtedly broad. But it is not equivalent to "prohibiting." The statute does not authorize the New Orleans Police--abetted by the National Guard and the U.S. Marshalls--to break into homes, point guns at people, and confiscate every single private firearm--or every single private bullhorn or private cigarette lighter.

What size (or kind of) terrorist attack would warrant the loss of our rights, the postponement, or even the cancellation of an election? Are there a certain number of casualties or wounded needed? Is 50 enough, 500, 5000? Is there a certain "threat" level that would be declared sufficient? Would enough wildfires across the country, the origins of which were questionable, meet "their" qualifications? Guess who makes these decisions?

Is anyone taking odds that "something" will happen before the "08" election?
    If so, what are they?
