    +1

Some states are doing "enhanced" ID's that will work too.

If you are flying yes if you are driving you can get the id card for about half the cost of a passport. Go ahead and get the passport incase you have to fly back. A friend is sending his kids to Yellowstone and they are driving up to Cannada afterwards to stay at some Glacier place. He just was here this afternoon and told me the deal .He is Captain of the Highway Patrol here and he does everything by the book.

If you've EVER had a DUI, you cannot go to Canada?
Sounds a bit crazy to me..

We had to get passports for two of my daughters to visit my idiot sister-in-law who lives in Pt. Roberts, WA. which requires you to enter Canada to get there.[:(!]

Not true they only check the driver, I have taken a bus across the boarder and the driver was the only one checked.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

That is false. they will let you into canada if you have a DUI. They just take a little longer with the paper work at he border and most likely will search your car.

I'm only a few miles south of the border, but I don't have any desire to go to a place that won't let me take my guns with me. It's a shame...there's a lot of good kayaking up there. The only time I've been in Canada was while in the Military.

    non-restricted firearms:

Most ordinary hunting rifles and shotguns. These may be brought temporarily into Canada for sporting or hunting use during hunting season, for use in competition, for in-transit movement through Canada, or for personal protection against wildlife in remote areas of Canada. Anyone wishing to bring hunting rifles into Canada must be at least 18 years old, and the firearm must be properly stored for transport.

When we went to Alaska and drove back through Canada(last July) we only needed birth certificates and driver's license. Like mentioned already, that is/was suppose to change.

As far as firearms goes, it was a piece of cake for us to transport them. Sucks that you have to go through the hassle, but just read the regulations and fill out the forms and you will be fine. Ammunition and firearms must be stored seperately, and they must be locked as well. [V]

For "unrestricted firearms" you need a form(that you can print off of one of the Canadian travel or gov. websites) that requires you to write down all information pertaining to the firearms your traveling with. You then present this form to the border patrol when crossing. Your firearms then need to be locked, cases, and stored in the back of the vehicle, seperate from ammo.

For restricted firearms you need to apply for a form(well in advance) of you trip. Supposedly, these are extremely hard to get, but my buddy was able to get one for us. Most likely was partially do to him getting out of the army though.

The Japanese lady working Canadian customs when we went to Vancouver in '99 - who had a hard time with Southern American English - didn't think that my (new -honeymoon) wife's Puerto Rican birth cert was enough to prove her US citizenship. And of course, "its fake, i can't read it, its in spanish".

The American guy working American customs on the way back simply smiled, said Welcome Back, and reminded me that there was no smoking in the airport.

Very large gun shop selling handguns at the West Edmonton Mall. They even have an indoor pistol range at the Mall.
