gun shop finds today

found a mdl 1897 16 ga good condition for $500 and a colt python 4" for $700.didn't get a chance to check out the python they were closing and very busy.Blueing was well worn,going back to check it out on tues, what should I look for on the python?

    If you go for the 1897, be aware that it may be a 2-9/16" chamber. If it doesn't say anything on the barrel about chamber length, it should be 2-9/16". If it was made after 1931, it will have a 2-3/4" chamber and it will have that stamped on the barrel.
    (I learned this from Bert on the Experts forum.)
    I was abel to find 2-1/2" 16 ga. shells that work great in my old 1897.
