People believe what they want to believe. Facts simply do not intrude upon their beliefs.
this is very true and ties in with another frequent forum topic, but i wont digress there.
this is what drug use does to you. i dont think this campaign will do much good. most serious drug addicts start off with a part time chipping habit. a little here, a little there. at first they can control it, then then only think they are still in control of it, then one day they wake up and they are completely hooked. everybody thinks they can be stronger than the drug. oh know, it wont get its hooks into me. im bigger than the drug.
with some drugs, this is actually possibly. plenty of people have had recreational habits that extended into several years and then walked away from it never to return. unfortunately, cocaine(and crack) and meth-amphetamines dont really allow for that. the ratio of successfully rehabilitated heroin addicts to successfully rehabilitated meth addicts is staggering. i'll try to dig up those stats as i dont want to quote from memory a study i read years ago. the bottom line is that once meth has its hooks into you, it owns you for life(which is of course significantly shortened).
