    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

They can't kill the damn thing in one shot? They need to turn in their badges and hang their heads in shame. Either that or hire a REAL rifleman to do their dirty work.

What would happen if you had some sort of defensive aerosol (like pepper spray)...only instead of pepper, the primary ingredient was catnip?[:0]

Since the ban on mountain lion hunting here in Cal, attacks on humans by these cats has increased substantially.

About 18 months ago a man was killed by one about 10 miles from my house. The same day a woman was attacked and mauled by the same cat. She was saved by a friend who beat the cat with rock.

The cat was shot by sheriffs later on.

I have seen coyotes and bobcat on my street. My neighbor told me he saw a mountain lion one evening while walking his dog. We have lots of cottontail rabbits here, so there is a food supply.

Neighbor said we had one living in our adjoining back yards last winter.
All I saw were tracks, she saw it take a good sized buck down.

Guess it was living under her porch, until she put some mothballs under there with it.

Heck, I would have saved the moth balls for moths, and gave kitty a load of lead. I HATE cats. 'Specially ones that big.

We used to camp not too far from there. Never saw any cats but lots of little bears.

Well, the man should have had a large caliber gun. Then the MOUNTAIN LION would be dead and the man alive. Seems pretty simple to me.

We had a woman killed by one a few years back, up in our local mountains.

Between the Great White Sharks, earthquakes and mountain lion attacks ...
    California is a scary place.

Don't forget the wild boar.... I got a little to close for my comfort to a piglet before I saw it, and momma pig was nearby, I was too close for her comfort too.
That was on an archery range 28 target course, I was putting up fresh targets, didn't even have my bow.

Oh well, there's so many people, so few of them. As a group, they are struggling to survive, we aren't.

tr fox, a gun may not have helped the man at all if he didn't see it coming.

Buddy system is best if there are mountain lions in the area I guess.

The guy was a well-known semi-loon that used to shave and bathe on this big rock shelf about 200' from his porch. The cat obviously saw a naked, scraggly dude all nicely washed and shaved, presenting himself as a meal about 2.5 miles S. of the Gila Wilderness Boundary.
When you live that close to a huge Wilderness area in this part of the country; you can expect to see all kinds of animals that nobody knows live there.
Pinos Altos is a former mining community just NE of Silver City, and is one of many ways to reach the Gila Wilderness.
Back in the mid-70s, a group of us were sent to lay mining claims along the Southern Boundary of the Gila, from Preachers' Peak to about Diamond Hill or so, and we saw big cats, wolves (thought extinct for 45 years, and cause of re-introduction of Mexican Grey Wolves to the area), many bears, bobcats, and Elk during our 6-month visit. We also saw the Feds haul a load of Winnebagos and 4-wheelers out by pack mule train. Seems a bunch of Texans decided (like they do everywhere they go) that the "wilderness" designation didn't apply to them, and though they were specifically warned not to take even a chainsaw into the Wilderness; they went ahead and passed about 4 miles into raw, pure mountainous terrain in their vehicles, and cut many trees to make a hole large enough for the Winnies. That's how the Feds caught 'em; they followed the tracks and trees until they found the Texans. Since Federal Law says that no motorized vehicles are allowed; they had to remove the vehicles by mule train!

Pepper spray and jingly bells are recommended to deter bears too.

How can you tell black bear scat from Grizzly scat?

Grizzly scat smells like pepper spray and is full of bells.

    Carry a big pistola.

A couple of years ago me and some buddies were building a cabin on Terry Peak, here in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We had a 2x10 plank running from the garage floor up into the doorway to the house since it was about a 5' drop and there were no stairs yet. The garage floor at that time was still dirt, and up there the dirt is a red brown color and it had been raining/snowing for a few days. One morning we got up there and there were 2 sets of big ole cat prints walking up that plank and into the kitchen of the cabin and then back out. One set was big prints and the others were about half that size. We figured it was a momma and a cub or kitten or w/e ya call em. There was always tracks outside because they would follow the flocks of turkeys in the morning, but they had never been that brave before...

Talk about being scared to go outside after dark, especially when your work lights are the only lights for a quarter mile. [:p]

Liberals are more scary than all those things put together, and California has a ton of those. [;)]
