He's listed that before. Either that, or it isn't the only one in existence.

Big dam* deal. A misstamped number. So in his opinion it is a one of a kind, rare, must have for collectors model. Give me a break. People today will try anything.

I wish he was local so I could laugh at him face to face.

He must like it a lot because he's going to have it a LONG time. [}:)]

Its a beautiful gun for $650.

I think the seller "accidentally" tacked on an extra digit! [;)]

he will do anything to try to raise the funds
because someone told him oh thats rare.
to many times I have heard that at a gun show
he needs to get realistic on how much the gun
is worth. or he's going to have it for a long time

    I have a S&W Model 28 that is stamped Model 29 (or a 57 as a 58, et al)!

    58. S&W built many different models on the same frames and every once in a while one got stamped with the incorrect number. It actually happened quite frequently and nobody pays much attention to it one way or the other. Collectors don't seek them or shun them and prices are essentially unaffected although some sellers will try to claim they are rare and jack the asking price.

If anything it's a defect that should detract from the asking price.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Not nearly as delusional as the seller whose S&W revolver has the dash misstamped between the 1st & 2nd digit instead of between the 2nd & 3rd digit, & hopes to get enough from the proceeds to send his kids to college.

Has anyone told him it's not as rare as he thinks?

That stamping does not look factory and you can see where someone removed material and prior numbers.

As much as I like S&W revolvers, their quality control is lacking at times. [V]

You'd think in this day and age, something as minor as an erroneous stamping would be caught.

Once bought a NIB .22LR bolt-action Ruger rifle with a .22WRM barrel on it. Called Ruger and told them, and they couldn't get it back soon enough from me. I removed the factory laminated stock from it before shipping, and sent just the receiver / barrel back.

They returned it to me with the proper barrel, as well as another laminated stock. [^]

You seriously think that revolver left the factory like that?
For one thing, S&W does not have a guy hitting the numbers on one at a time with hand stamps and a hammer.

Everyone who didn't bid told him. I don't think he's listening though.

He will need to lower his opening bid by $1000 if he wants to sell it.

Agreed. Last time I checked, guns were not stamps or comic books, in which case the value WOULD be higher

    I have a "rare" Secret Service 38 S&W. I'll trade it plus $50 for his "rare" 617/176 or whatever.[:p]
