Special Teams receivers are now on notice to be VERY demonstrative when signaling a fair catch.

Give a half-assed signal, and you will be taken out.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Taking advantage of a rule that essentially keeps you from being killed? What an *. Hope he gets completely creamed after calling for a fair catch.

I think that Randy has a good point. Was the play legal - yes. Were the defensive players not being alert - yes. That said, I wonder how many receivers will be nailed because of not giving a clear enough fair catch signal - and that will be the argument given by the kicking team.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

TCU on kick off return, had one guy laying flat in the end zone.
Ohio State never saw the guy.
They tried a lateral pass to the guy and he went for a TD.
Unfortunately, the pass was forward and a penalty.

    I agree.
It's like the un necessary roughness calls when a player is hit and driven out of bounds on the sidelines. If you pull up, the player tightropes for 5-10 more yards! Or the QB that is so elusive. He needs to be wrapped up and driven to the ground or he figures out a way to get rid of the ball to avoid the loss of yards with the sack.

There wasn't one. He brought his hands above the helmet only to catch the ball and made no initial attempt to either evade or advance, so the opposing team erred on the side of caution.

It was a jerk move, and the officials should have downed the ball right where he caught it.

What turns me off on football is the officiating.

Although some returners are going to get hammered because of this play. It worked once for an underdog team.
If the ref whistled it dead, it wouldn't have been within the rules.
It was a one time trick play that worked.

Could be some punt runners absolutely creamed in the future because of this play. There will not be a repeat.

UNC's return man did that a few years ago. Cool move.
