BB guns

when you were a kid did you ever argue with your friends over who had the most powerful BB gun ?

one kid always joked about my break open single shot, he had a pump action Daisy and kept bragging it was the most powerful, mine not being powerful enough to make a mark on his butt, he said, "go ahead and shoot me on the butt", he pulled down his pants and from about 15 feet away i shot him on the butt, he went screaming to his Mother, she dug the BB out with a crochet hook and tweezers then lied to her about what happened, the other kids told her the truth. then agreed i had the most powerful BB gun [:D]

I have a couple old BB guns that were my dad's when he was younger. They were made in the 60s. I looked them up and found that they were actually worth a little bit of money.

I have two that are pretty old. kinda wouldn't mind starting a collection. I seem some old ones at flea markets all the time but just walk past them. Never knew they held their value like the ones I looked up.

I don't care alot about how much they are worth, it's just a bonus. But I think it's cool to see the history of the guns and how they've evolved over the years. One is a Crossman 3500 slide action where you slide the barrel in to cock it. Pretty cool I think.

Just curious if anybody on here happens to collect bb guns, or think it's wortwhile. If any of you have pictures you can post of and older bb gun that you have I'd be very interested in seeing it.

Can't beat the old Daisy Red Ryder if you want a BB gun.
If you want an air gun, spring, pneumatic, BB or pellet rifle, there are plenty, most if not all not made here.
Check out Pyramid Air. They have everything.
I have a Gamo Silent Stalker Whisper, .177 caliber. Not a spring air gun but a piston type. Very accurate and good for a lot of small game.

I think Daisy is 100% US, others are sometimes, like Crosman, Benjamin, may have come foreign parts.

I am just assuming your grandson is small. Daisy makes a model they named Daisy Buck or something like that. It has a shorter stock than the Red Rider and is better for those younger than 10 or so. Most hardware or farm stores carry them or can order one for you.

My son has a Sheridan Blue Streak 5MM from the 60s that belonged to his GF. It hadn't worked in years. I restored it last year. It's a great rifle. They can be fixed with the proper tools. Parts are available for Blue and Silver Streaks.
Don't throw'em away when they quit working.
    Send'em to me.[:D]

When I was a kid most of the boys had a Daisy lever action BB guns. Some kids had the Daisy pump but they spent most of their time reloading the thing instead of shooting hundreds of BB's at a time without reloading like the kids with the lever action guns. The pumps seem to shoot harder but you could squirt a few drops of 3 & 1 oil down the barrel of the lever action and it would shoot just about as hard.

depending on age. if they are younger I would start with nothing more than a Red Ryder/Daisy. Little older proably a crossman, pump. would stay away from C02 models

Get him a Daisy Red Ryder. My dad taught me how to shoot with one and I taught my son to shoot with one too. Easy on the kid and as cheap to shoot as a slingshot. I wish I still had the one my dad gave me.

first gun is about teaching fundamentals, safety, etc. No need for something that can do some serious damage. Nice thing about a red ryder short of poking out eyes, its not going kill. pellet guns and 22s can.

unless the kids were in there teens, id have a hard giving some kid that wasnt familiar with guns more than a bb gun

    Yes but it's Crosman/Benjamin/Sheridan now.
