I know this has came through here before, but I don't recall that many replies on it.

Has anyone here ever shot one of these, and what would you think of it as a carry piece?

Ballistically, its a glorified .22 magnum. If you wouldn't carry one of those for defense, why carry one of these? Personally, I'd rather have 5 .38+Ps (or anything larger) than 20 .22s.

The anti-gun idiots LOATHE this gun, because of its high capacity as well as its alleged armor piercing abilities. While their hatred is probably good enough reason to buy one, the problem is, the effects they are afraid of requires the armor-piercing ammo, which I believe is already illegal. (Of course the perfectly legal .44 magnum will pierce armor too, but reality never interjects itself into a good anti-gun rant).

I sometimes wonder why 1911-type .22LR pistols do not have higher-capacity magazines available. Or any .22LR pistols with plenty of "real estate" in the grip for a bigger ]capacity] magazine.

There are a few people [I've read] who carry this piece as a CCW.

But the shrill fearful cries are following this piece.
Boston Police recently found one during a raid, and promptly asserted the city was under siege.

They're not MA-compliant guns, so you can't legally have one in MA. . .

But then again, neither are Glocks, and just about every MA cop carries those.

We have sold about twenty in all....and even had about two trade-ins, so had a couple go "used" in the store. They may actually make it....but the ammo has to come out of the impossible market tht it is in. The first run of ammo was what actually made the gun do "the impossible"....now that its all gone, or so expensive that nobody would dare shoot it....I don't see why its treated like anything more than a new style handgun.

I do like the way manufaturers are going to the "more capacity without making the grips bigger. The XD-45acp is a great example of what is possible....14 total!

    Cool but pricy.
There is now a 5.7x28 AR upper receiver that takes p90 mags. Don't Ask me why, I'm just the messenger.

Ah yes, seen those while cruising GB looking at the FN's. Nice, but pricey.

I am also not too sure of what that little bullet will do after it penetrates body armor. Sure in a P-90 it makes sense, stopping power through volume, but in a pistol?

Besides, how many thugs wear class IIIA body armor?

Go with a glock 36.Go to the local gun store and put one in your hand and then put it in a concealed holster and put it on your side.It also has the knock down of a 45 cal.As for it's 6+1 capacity everybody says more rounds are better and if that is the case why not make a 22 cal pistol that holds 75 rounds or something like that.Even concealed you can carry an extra mag for the G36 that means 6+6+1 in the barrel 13 rounds at your side not bad for the size of the gun.Take a look you will be suprised.

Yes, I saw someone's thread earlier about the G36, and have been looking at some on GB. They do look like a strong posibility, and think I do as you suggest and try handling one.

The price of ammo for the FN five seven is rediculous. I love that it has 20 round mags and little tiny, very fast bullets.

Plastic POS. FN sent us (the PD) two of them for FREE, because we bought two of their super-whiz-bang burp guns in the same caliber. It is the ballistic equivalent of a .22 magnum. A weenie gun. They must be having trouble selling them if they are giving them away.

About the only thing I can see it is good for might be as a modern-day replacement for the .22 Hornet. .22 magnum ballistics out of a reloadable centerfire case.

The guns and the cartridge exist to take advantage of the lucrative police market, especially the SWAT types. They just gotta have the newest thing, whether it is any damn good or not.

Thanks for all the good info, guys. I'm kinda leaning toward the G36, for now anyway.

    Thanks again.
