I have been trying to make a knife every so often with a varied results. The first few were, well they looked like the first few.I have one started now that may turn out pretty good so I probably need some advice. The first ones I bradded the scales on with #10 copper wire(The scales were walnut)but there has to be a better way.Where do you get rivits to put them on with? And how do you engrave your name on the tang if you happen to make one that you would want anyone to know you made? Thanks for any tips.

Hi Buddy: I've been a custom knifemaker since 91', and know of many, many resources for makers from old to new. Here's a good forum to start with http://www.knifenetwork.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18, and there any many others. I have a custom knifemaker chat on paltalk that is open most every evening, and there are several others scattered alllll over the net.

Keep in mind though that it can be terribly addictive. Good luck with it.

An "electric pencil" type engraver works pretty good, but it takes a bit of practice to to get really nice results. You could also stamp the blade before you heat-trat it. Alphanumeric stamp sets can be bought at almost any hardware store.

I've found eletro chemical etching to produce the nicest marks. Google it to find good info on the process.
