Refridgerator Electrical Advice Please.

Mrs. Plaid came home this morning and as she climbed into bed she said the refridgerator might be taking a crap. The power has gone off a couple of times since she has been home and the refridgerator keeps starting and stopping. I was still half asleep and elected to sleep on it further.

When I got up, it was working fine.

Could it be a capacitor on the motor?
Any suggestion on size?

Could we have just not been getting enough volts?

It's normal for them to start and stop...

Powerfailures may have put a hiccup into its defrost cycle- most have it, and we never notice it. If it's working- well, it is what it is.

Somestimes you get a spike when the power comes back up. I lost a brand new refridgerator that way. The spike zapped the control electronics and I had to pay a technician to come out and fix it

Three years ago , Lightning took out my computer, two phones, freezer, and the computer board on the furnance. Power surges can also fry electrics. I would be checking other equipment.

If its working fine now, then don't worry about it.

Cooling stuff like fridges and a/c need to shut off for 5 or so minutes before starting back up. The compressors don't like short cycles.

If you had some short cycle power outages, they cause a problem but the system settled down and all is fine now.

It could be as simple as a relay.

Here's a link to a do it yourself site....

Surge surpressors are cheap, compared to the new fangeled (sp)electronics.Just think,[:D][:D][:D] if you protected a four grand tv with a twenty buck surge surpressor.[:D][:D]

I have little faith in surge protectors. My generator had a runaway
last year, fried two tv's and a computer, all on surge protectors.
Oh, it toasted 4 surge protectors too.
