Sniper-Era Chief Training as Honolulu Street Officer

WTOP
5/4/2006
Charles Moose was at the forefront of the hunt for the snipers who terrorized the D.C. area, four years ago -- the former Montgomery County Police Chief was the public face of the regional task force that arrested John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo.

Just before opening statements in Muhammad's sniper murder trial, Charles Moose is training as a recruit for the Honolulu Police Department.

WTOP has told you it was in the works in the past few weeks, but Michelle Yu, of the Honolulu Police Department confirms Moose entered the training academy May 1. She says Moose will undergo approximately six months of classroom training and another six months of field training.

Moose's wife has been quoted as saying her husband misses the excitement of police work and has been looking forward to getting back to the work he loves. You'll remember Moose stepped down as chief to write a book on the sniper investigation.

When he graduates, Moose will have the rank of Officer. He's being paid during the training period, but is technically on probation with the department.

Yes, Mr Moose was our Chief for a time. He is one of the most angry men I have ever known. Very racist guy. In trouble a lot in portland with store clerks, etc. A large ego. But then I guess it takes a large ego to run a police department.

He was surrounded with talented people that made him look good. But thats only my humbel opinion.

I forgot to add I wish him all the sucess in the world. He likes police work a lot to start over again as a beginner.

in that guys own book he said that he became a police officer to learn how "the white people use racism to frame black men" so he could then become a defense attorney and win freedom for wrongly convicted black men. its no wonder why the liberal media made this guy a hero. and he didnt catch the snipers, a white truck driver did.

Yes, Albert, you are right. He was placed in the Portland police dept for political reasons. He had a solid staff that handled the work load. It was window dressing. Then he became very difficult to control for the Mayor. Into lots of trouble with his mouth, and one day he was gone and we cheered.
How he ever got a PHd in police works is beyond me. The rank and file will give you a different opinion about his skills. In my opinion.

In his numerous interviews during the Sniper case, he sounded like a moron.
After the bad guys were caught, he made the remark, "Thank God we have one more assault rifle off the street."
Somehow, he gets credit for being the hero of the sniper case, when many of the shootings were not in his jurisdiction, and he did not nab the crook.
I think Lowrider summed it up in two words.

Now Portland has another problem. He had been relieved of duty for sexual discrimination. Sent e-mails to his white clerk that bagged him for sure. I think he was a good cop but Chief material, I don't thinks so. Another embarssment to the Mayor and the city. Now we have a gal in the office, lets see how she does.
